Just saw "The Pandorica Opens" and yep, that's about all I have to say right now . . .

Will I last a week for part two? I'm taking bets!

Yes, I have finally seen Eleventh Hour! I'm not in the mood to do a full reaction post, but some quick spoiler-free comments:

-- I really liked Matt Smith's performance. There was never a moment where I doubted that he was the Doctor. Also, I know he's young, but he didn't come across to me as seeming any younger than David Tennant.

-- I like what I've seen so far of Amy, too.

-- I'm getting even more excited for the rest of the series.

By "it," of course I mean "End of Time, part two." It's late here so I won't post a full review, but I just had to share one tiny reaction. spoiler )

I'm not ready yet to do a full reaction post -- if I ever am -- but I did want to get down the following two scene excerpts.

Okay, I never would've guessed that watching the second half of "The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith" would make me need to immediately go re-watch an episode of Classic Who . . . and even if I had guessed that, I wouldn't've guessed that the episode I would need to re-watch was "Hand of Fear."

But that's just what happened.

Other than that, I don't feel ready to make a post about my reaction yet, other than to say that I liked it.

I've watched "The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith" part 1 twice now, and the last 5 minutes of it four times, and I'm so flail and squee that I have to post something, but there's no need for a spoiler cut because I'm too incoherent to put down anything other than OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OHMYGOD!!!!!

Yes, I liked that. A lot.

(And SJA? Remember what I said about your last episode? All is forgiven.)

I can't believe it took me this long, but I have finally listened to the commentary on the DVD boxset for "Stolen Earth" and "Journey's End."

cut for episode and commentary spoilers, just in case )

Um, interesting reactions going on to the David Tennant news. I mean, I was sad myself -- still am, in a "it would have been nice to have more episodes with him" sort of way -- but some of what I've read in the last 24 hours has been . . . slightly disturbing. Okay, I'm glad people have a public outlet for working through what are obviously very strong feelings. But at this rate, it's just a matter of time now before we start getting "Ten is the only true Doctor" fic. Which, you know, only goes against the entire premise of the show. Just a bit.

I wasn't around the fandom when Eccleston went . . . was it this bad?

I knew it had to come eventually, but I was hoping not yet -- David Tennant has announced his departure from Doctor Who. He'll finish out the specials and then leave at the same time as RTD. Which does give Moffatt the chance to cast the new Doctor, and does make sense, and yes, 3-4 years is a very typical run for an actor to play the Doctor, and yes, I completely understand Tennant's desire to leave while he's still enjoying the show rather than waiting until he can't stand it anymore . . .

But I am really going to miss him.

And the really sad thing is, I now suspect that I've already seen the best of the Tenth Doctor episodes. Because RTD and I do not have a good thing going with big blow-out specials. I did like "The Christmas Invasion." Then I saw "The Runaway Bride" and had to say it kind of sucked. There were good moments, yes -- especially the fighting and bonding between the Doctor and Donna (the "I'm not a Martian" line, and the scene on the roof) -- but on the whole I didn't really like it. Then came "Voyage of the Damned," which took suckiness to whole new levels of disaster episode suckdom. So, I'd already been dreading what we're going to get for the Doctor Who TV season this year. And now . . . well, I hope I'm wrong and RTD can keep it toned down and worthy of the first-class farewell season that Tennant deserves, even if it is a bunch of specials and not a real season. RTD is capable of writing excellent episodes ("Midnight" is one of my all-time favorites). He is also capable of completely screwing things up, especially when he tries to go for the big blow-out ("Last of the Time Lords" is one of my all-time most-hated episodes). So, we'll see.

This might need to be a night for re-watching "Logopolis." Then again, that just might make me feel worse.
