Today I will answer the question that I have arbitrarily defined as Day 3 on my heavily abridged version of the "30 Days of Television" meme.

Day 3: A show that should never have been cancelled

My answer: Battlestar Galactica, the 1978 version.

Yes, that's right, the 1978 version. Want to know why?

I'm so glad you asked )

Continuing on with my abridged version of the 30 Days of Television meme, it's:

Day 2: A show everyone should watch

My answer: The Big Bang Theory

Why? Because it's a comedy, and good comedy has something for everyone. Because it's the best damn comedy on television right now, and one of the best ever made. Because it's extremely well-written and it has a wonderful ensemble cast. And because it has scenes like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtm-8OmLLeQ

If you're a geek (and chances are that if you're reading my LJ, you are), you must watch this show. But non-geeks will find plenty to enjoy, too.

There's been an interesting "30 Days of Television" meme going around, and I thought about doing all 30 days, but while I've been enjoying reading other people's entries, there are really only a few of the 30 questions that I feel particularly motivated to answer. I may at some point go back and pick up some others, but for now, I am presenting Day 1 of the heavily abridged version, hereinafter to be known as the "5 Days of Television Abridged Meme."

Since I loved [personal profile] thisbluespirit's wrap-up on the stories she wrote in 2009, I thought I'd give this meme a shot. However, after going back and looking at the posting dates of my stories, it turns out that I've only written 4 stories this year, and one of them isn't even finished yet! Well, that was depressing to find out! So, rather than talk about those 4 stories (one of which I can't even talk about yet because it's a Yuletide fic), I've decided to do this meme for all of my fic -- all 15 stories of it (I think you'll be able to keep up).

THE FANFICTION LOVE MEME

Jumping on the meme bandwagon because a) I'm curious, and b) what, invite people to say positive things about my writing? Well okay, if you insist. ; )

Besides, if I know more about what I do well as a writer, maybe I can try to do it more often!

Since the discussion about whether one gets more response to a fic from LJ or from Teaspoon got so interesting, I decided to stop relying on my general impression and instead go look at the stats for my fics. If anyone wants to pick this up and turn it into a meme, I'd love to see how the stats play out with other authors, but in the meantime, here's what I did:

1) Go to Teaspoon, open up the "managed stories" feature, and click on "view chapters." Looking only at fics that have also been posted to LJ, find the top 5 most-reviewed fics / chapters within a fic.

2) Go to where those fics / chapters are posted on LJ and count up the number of people who left comments. (Note that the number of people is not the same as the number of comments on LJ, so this requires manual counting.)

3) Compare the number of Teaspoon reviews to the number of people who left LJ comments.

(I realize it might be slightly biasing to start with the most-reviewed fics from Teaspoon, but it's a lot easier to quickly see the top review-getters there. Anyway, as it turned out, my final list picked up all the high-reviewed fics from LJ, too.)

And now, the results: )

Yes, this meme has been around for awhile, but I haven't done it yet and I'm finally feeling in the mood.

Teaspoon Meme:

Open up your "Manage Stories" page on Teaspoon and unfold all the chapters. For the purposes of this meme, disregard first chapters of multichapter fics.

I've seen this around, and it sounds fun, so I shall give it a try:

1. Post the first lines of all your fics.
2. What does this say about you?

and here we go . . .  )

Drabble it forward: Make a post inviting people to request drabbles in the fandoms you write, any number of commenters you can handle. But the catch is, once someone makes a request, they also have to post the meme, and drabble it forward (If they bloody well want to, but it's not required!).

Fandoms: Well, currently I'm only writing in the Whoniverse, so Doctor Who (anything except audios / books), Torchwood and Sarah Jane Adventures. Sorry to be so limited, but as my friends list is almost all from these fandoms I figure you won't complain. Though if you really really want I could give you something from Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) -- assuming anyone even knows of that show anymore.

As a disclaimer, I should mention that the first commenter would get the first drabble I've ever written. So no promises about the quality, because I really have no idea how it might turn out. And now that I've made this offer so incredibly enticing, let's not all request at once . . . ; )

I think I might be very behind the times, but since I did just see a quote meme entry, here it goes:

"You mean you still practice teleportation? How quaint! Now if you got yourself a decent forklift truck . . " -- The Fourth Doctor, "Brain of Morbius"
