first lines meme

dbskylerI've seen this around, and it sounds fun, so I shall give it a try:
1. Post the first lines of all your fics.
2. What does this say about you?
Who's that with Mr. Finch?
Martha walked into the Hub and stopped cold, stunned at what she saw.
Sarah noticed that the Doctor and Rose were exiting the cafe, so leaving Mickey to close up her car, she walked over.
The first time Colonel Mace saluted him, the Doctor was almost amused.
It starts at the beginning.
Why did you call me over here, Professor?
The Doctor couldn't believe it.
Hydrogen. Helium. Barbara Wright. Ian Chesterton.
The Doctor disconnected the TARDIS from the rift and watched as the Earth resumed its natural orbit around its sun.
"Basingstoke!"
A doorbell at three in the morning was never good, Sarah thought, and that went double when there was a teenager in the house.
Captain Jack Harkness -- hero, time traveler and immortal extraordinaire -- sped through the streets of Aberdeen looking for his quarry.
And what does it say about me and my writing? Hmmm. Well, I seem to like to set the scene, or otherwise set things up in the first line. The big exception is "Basingstoke!" (from "Fallacy Somewhere"), and as soon as I knew I was writing a fic about Gilbert and Sullivan I promised myself I would find a way to start it with that word, so it doesn't really count. (Yes, I like "Ruddigore," can you tell?) Let me see, what else? In five stories the first word(s) is (are) the name of a character, so that's interesting. I notice there's not one word of description in any of these lines, but I suck at description so that's not too surprising. And I guess that's about it. If anyone sees any other patterns, let me know!
