dbskylerSince I loved thisbluespirit's wrap-up on the stories she wrote in 2009, I thought I'd give this meme a shot. However, after going back and looking at the posting dates of my stories, it turns out that I've only written 4 stories this year, and one of them isn't even finished yet! Well, that was depressing to find out! So, rather than talk about those 4 stories (one of which I can't even talk about yet because it's a Yuletide fic), I've decided to do this meme for all of my fic -- all 15 stories of it (I think you'll be able to keep up).

What Happened?
Super-Secret Yuletide Fandom
Fic with Super-Secret Name -- 2009
Total: 15. Well, 14 if you're only counting completed fics, and 13 if you're also not including drabbles. But I figure I need to count as many as I can! : )
Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted?
Less than I thought. In 2008 I had 10 completed fics plus a drabble, and I really thought I was writing at about the same rate in 2009. *Sigh*
Where did you publish/archive your stories?
Most are on both Teaspoon and this journal, a few are just on Teaspoon, the drabble is just on the journal and the Yuletide fic will get posted at the Yuletide archive at Archive of Our Own (and probably also go on the journal once authors are revealed).
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2009?
The Super-Secret Yuletide fandom. It was definitely a case of "Well, I'm pretty sure I can write that, I guess I'll offer it" as opposed to a fandom I'd always wanted to write. But then I fell in love with the canon again and had a really good time, so who knows, I might write that fandom again someday! Of course, it's a Yuletide fandom, which means there's hardly any audience for reading its fic . . .
What’s your favorite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest.
This year it's very definitely To the Rescue. I grinned when I got the idea for it, grinned all the way through the writing of it and I still enjoy re-reading it far more than I should. Yes, I'm one of those sad people who laughs at their own humor. Overall, though, I have to say Miles from Aberdeen is the story that makes me happiest to know it exists. It was the need to tell that story that got me into fanfic writing for Doctor Who, and it hits all my personal buttons. (I've realized that despite not being much of a shipper I do ship Doctor/Sarah, but in a very dysfunctional way.)
Okay, NOW your most popular story.
This year it's obviously To the Rescue. Overall, I think it's Fallacy Somewhere. I agree they're two of my better stories, so I'm thrilled by the great reactions both have gotten.
Story most underappreciated by the universe?
Super-Secret Yuletide fic that's yet to be posted anywhere -- do you realize it hasn't had one review? ; )
Truthfully, though, I don't think any of my stories are underappreciated. Some have definitely gotten less of a reaction, but deservedly so.
Story that could have been better?
Oh, wow. Well, definitely the drabble -- I did it as a challenge, but I can't really pull one off. What Happened? is a little embarrassing since I tried for crack but there's a disturbing undercurrent of Torchwood-bashing in it. Subtext: Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead didn't quite reach the level I would've liked. And Rosemary relies far too much on the emotion of "The Wedding of SJS" rather than generating its own emotion. I'm sure all the rest could've been better, too, but those are my main ones. Oh, and Turn Again could've been finished!
Sexiest story?
Um . . . hey, look over there! *runs away*
Most fun story?
Oooh. To the Rescue and No More Than He Deserved were both a lot of fun, but I'm going to have to say Fallacy Somewhere for having Gilbert and Sullivan in it, and taking away all their coats.
Story with single sweetest moment?
I think that'd be the ending to Miles from Aberdeen. I hope it's sweet, anyway.
The story that made you cry?
Rosemary made me cry when I wrote it, but mostly I think because I was getting out emotions left over from the episode. Strangely enough, although Turn Again has some very emotionally wrenching scenes in it, it hasn't made me cry. Well, not yet . . .
Hardest story to write?
Turn Again, no question. It is taking forever. If I'd known I would get this stalled on it, I would've waited until it was done before I started posting chapters. On the other hand, if some of it wasn't already out there getting reactions from people, the writing would probably be even more slow . . . and might've stopped completely by now.
Easiest story to write?
To the Rescue. Not only did I get it written in record (for me) time, but I enjoyed myself far too much.
Most overdue story?
Obviously, this one goes to Turn Again.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I think my biggest writing risk this year was signing up for Yuletide. Obviously I don't know yet how my effort will be received, and I definitely had my panic moments, but overall I was surprised by how the story turned out to be not that hard to write, despite being a) a new fandom, b) based on someone else's prompt, c) required to have a 1,000 word minimum and d) required to be finished before a very strict deadline. All those things scare me to death, but I wonder now if they should.
Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?
Finish Turn Again! Actually, I'd be happy as a clam if I could get that done before the New Year, but I'm not holding my breath. Other than that, my main fanfic goal is to write fanfic! Preferably more than I wrote this past year.

calufrax, how's that? Mostly, though, I just want to write stories that are good. It'd be nice to do some more humor -- I seem to be fairly successful at that -- and I wouldn't be surprised if I were moved to write an angsty piece around "End of Time" once that airs. After that, maybe something with Eleven? I won't know if I can write him until I've seen a few of his episodes, though. If I do decide I can write him, I think the odds of an Eleven and Sarah story are fairly good. : )
