LJ vs. Teaspoon stats

Since the discussion about whether one gets more response to a fic from LJ or from Teaspoon got so interesting, I decided to stop relying on my general impression and instead go look at the stats for my fics. If anyone wants to pick this up and turn it into a meme, I'd love to see how the stats play out with other authors, but in the meantime, here's what I did:

1) Go to Teaspoon, open up the "managed stories" feature, and click on "view chapters." Looking only at fics that have also been posted to LJ, find the top 5 most-reviewed fics / chapters within a fic.

2) Go to where those fics / chapters are posted on LJ and count up the number of people who left comments. (Note that the number of people is not the same as the number of comments on LJ, so this requires manual counting.)

3) Compare the number of Teaspoon reviews to the number of people who left LJ comments.

(I realize it might be slightly biasing to start with the most-reviewed fics from Teaspoon, but it's a lot easier to quickly see the top review-getters there. Anyway, as it turned out, my final list picked up all the high-reviewed fics from LJ, too.)



I have a lot of ties, so I ended up with a top 8 list instead of a top 5 list. Also, I disqualified "Miles from Aberdeen" since the LJ post linked to the Teaspoon version instead of being a separate posting. Here's the final list:

Subtext: Teaspoon 10; LJ 8
To the Rescue: Teaspoon 9; LJ 8
Fallacy Somewhere: Teaspoon 8; LJ 18
No More Than He Deserved: Teaspoon 6; LJ 13
Match Point: Teaspoon 6; LJ 4
Nameless: Teaspoon 6; LJ 2
As Simple As That: Teaspoon 6; LJ 7
Turn Again (chapter one): Teaspoon 6; LJ 10

Number of fics/chapters where Teaspoon did better: 4
Number of fics/chapters where LJ did better: 4
Total number of reviews from Teaspoon: 57
Total number of people who left comments on LJ: 70

So, hmm. Obviously, my first impression of an LJ advantage was wrong -- I'm evenly split in whether the better response has come from Teaspoon or from LJ. However, I have had a couple of notable cases where the LJ response was far greater than the Teaspoon response, which left LJ the clear winner in terms of total number of people leaving feedback.

Anyone else care to give it a try?

I know without looking that I get more reviews/comments on LJ than on Teaspoon...

I think it might also depend on where on LJ you post / advertise . . . I was surprised when some people said they did better on Teaspoon, and then also surprised to see that half the time, so did I.

I do post links on the relevant comms, so that probably draws more attention than if I didn't... And Who_Daily watch my journal too.
