Sunday musings

Sherlock debuts tonight here, and I'm going to watch it, but I confess that I'm not very excited. Mystery is not one of my favorite genres as a rule, and I think the last Sherlock Holmes story I saw was the movie "Without a Clue" way back in 1988. Now that's an excellent movie, don't get me wrong, but it's not exactly a typical Sherlock Holmes story. However, everyone's been raving about how great this new Sherlock series is, and it's apparently not typical either (although probably far less funny than "Without a Clue"), and since I do like Steven Moffat's writing, I'm going to give it a try.
Strangely enough, I seem to have also hit a dip in my excitement for tomorrow's SJA episode. I'm still excited to see it, but I'm no longer counting the hours the way I was a few days ago. Either it's easier to wait now that the wait is shorter, or my worry that I'm going to be disappointed by the episode is catching up and out-pacing my excitement to see it. If the latter, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

As for Katy, it was so great to see her back again, and she hasn't lost one iota of her charm, or her energy! They did overplay the babbling, but I thought Katy pulled it off, turning what could've been silly into something rather sweet.

Personally I always have love a good mystery, I read tons of mystery books when I was in elementary school and one of my favorite anime series was a Detective one. I also always thought about picking up a Holmes book but never got around to it.

Date: 2010-10-25 01:55 am (UTC)Glad you're looking forward to Sherlock. A lot of television drama is mystery-driven -- Doctor Who often has a mystery at its core -- so it's too simplistic to say that I don't like mysteries at all. However, I don't like mystery books, and I don't tend to enjoy detective shows (at least, the ones that revolve mainly around the detecting part). But Sherlock has gotten so many rave reviews, I'm hoping I'll like it anyway.

Date: 2010-10-25 05:44 am (UTC)Hey, give me a break, I hadn't seen the show yet when I posted that! I was just speculating. But the show just finished airing here a few minutes ago, and I watched it, and -- "Without a Clue" is still funnier, sorry. Of course, it's supposed to be funnier, it's a comedy. But yes, I agree that Sherlock had more humor than I expected, and I also really liked it, which is another example of Moffat's skill since I'm not a Holmes fan either, or even a fan of the Holmes genre.
