Sherlock debuts tonight here, and I'm going to watch it, but I confess that I'm not very excited. Mystery is not one of my favorite genres as a rule, and I think the last Sherlock Holmes story I saw was the movie "Without a Clue" way back in 1988. Now that's an excellent movie, don't get me wrong, but it's not exactly a typical Sherlock Holmes story. However, everyone's been raving about how great this new Sherlock series is, and it's apparently not typical either (although probably far less funny than "Without a Clue"), and since I do like Steven Moffat's writing, I'm going to give it a try.

Strangely enough, I seem to have also hit a dip in my excitement for tomorrow's SJA episode. I'm still excited to see it, but I'm no longer counting the hours the way I was a few days ago. Either it's easier to wait now that the wait is shorter, or my worry that I'm going to be disappointed by the episode is catching up and out-pacing my excitement to see it. If the latter, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I beg to differ about the humorousness of Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock! There's a good deal of humour inherent in the idea of a genius like Sherlock being mates with an ordinary bloke like Watson, especially when Moffat's at the keyboard...

Also, I'm not a huge fan of Holmes at all, but I loved Moffat's take on it - that's real skill...

Hey, give me a break, I hadn't seen the show yet when I posted that! I was just speculating. But the show just finished airing here a few minutes ago, and I watched it, and -- "Without a Clue" is still funnier, sorry. Of course, it's supposed to be funnier, it's a comedy. But yes, I agree that Sherlock had more humor than I expected, and I also really liked it, which is another example of Moffat's skill since I'm not a Holmes fan either, or even a fan of the Holmes genre.

I wasn't having a go at you - I CAN read!! I saw that you hadn't watched it yet, I was just making an observation!

I seriously don't know why I bother talking to anyone lately since everyone seems to assume I'm attacking them when I'm actually not!

*hugs* Yeah, the internet isn't always good for reading intentions. I honestly didn't think you were attacking. I'm sorry if my reply came off as annoyed or irritated, because I really, truly wasn't (nor am I now). I was just amused that you were making a point with Cumberbatch when I hadn't seen Cumberbatch yet.

I hope your day gets a lot better today.

(psst -- SJA is on later. *g*)

Given the time zone difference between us, it seemed highly likely to me that you *would* have seen it by the time I posted my comment. Therefore it seemed logical to me to reference BC's performance (not least because his is the only Sherlock Holmes I've seen apart from the recent movie - and that definitely did lack humour).
