I was flipping through TV channels tonight, and I happened to randomly come across Scott Bakula in the back of a truck with a bunch of Nazis. At first I thought it must be some episode of Quantum Leap that I hadn't seen before, but no, it turned out to be Star Trek: Enterprise. With Nazis. But not just any old Nazis. These Nazis were being led by aliens who want to change Earth's past. Yes, alien Nazis.

I didn't watch enough of it to tell you more, although I did wonder if there was a weathered Kansas farmer Time Lord* lurking around somewhere.

* An unfilmed crazy plot from Doctor Who, with bits available from a tape of Paul McGann's audition. There's a weathered Kansas farmer Time Lord, the Doctor, and Nazis. Presumably regular Nazis, not alien Nazis.

I don't think anyone could count on it, frankly. It is a very crazy plot... :-)

I think the episode would have been improved with a weathered Kansas Time Lord, though.

Well, maybe not, but at least it would have amused me.

I stopped watching Enterprise somewhere in or possibly after the third season (which I hear is somewhat of a shame because apparently the fourth and last season was a bit less crazy) but my recollection is something like, "If you thought they did crazy shit with time travel in Voyager, wait till you get a load of this." There was some big arc with a "Temporal Cold War"? Memory Alpha is domain-not-found-ing at the moment so I can't go look (wonder if it's the same big DDoS thing going on right now that's affecting Twitter and a whole bunch of things).

The crazy thing is, I normally love time travel stories -- I'm a fan of Doctor Who, for god's sake -- and I just couldn't watch this episode because it was getting so ridiculous. Although I gave up on Enterprise in the first season because I didn't like the characters or, well, any of the episodes, actually. (And I did like Voyager!)

"Temporal Cold War"? Eek. I don't know why they didn't just stick to their premise of exploring the beginning of the Federation. They could have struck a note halfway between TOS (straight-up exploration) and DS9 (political intrigue), but no, they had to go crazy with the plots, like they were afraid the standard Star Trek formula wasn't interesting anymore.

I tapped out at the theme song lyrics (which is petty, but given the reviews of the series proper, probably the right decision)

Yes, the right decision.

If you ever feel inclined to watch any, the In A Mirror, Darkly two-parter has its own credit sequence without singing :-)

The only other episode I'd recommend is Future Tense, as an artefact from the days when Doctor Who was an obscure, long-cancelled British show fit only to be strip-mined for concepts.
