As I did this last year, I thought it would be interesting to do it again. Let's see what I wrote in 2010!

Fics Written:

Doctor Who / Sarah Jane Adventures

Brave Heart? (drabble)
Break of Day
Getting There (50ficlets)
Like Father, Like Son (drabble)
Not Human (50ficlets)
Of Regeneration and Jelly Babies (50ficlets)
On the Benefits of Having an Attic
Other Uses for Sonic Devices (drabble)
Plus Ça Change (50ficlets)
Remembered
Success (drabble)
Surety (50ficlets)
The Spotter's Guide to the Doctor
Transformation
Turn Again (WIP)

Yuletide 2009 (as I didn't really get the chance to talk about these in last year's meme)

Partners -- Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) (1969)
The Pirates of Iolanthe -- Gilbert & Sullivan (Pirates of Penzance and Iolanthe)
Upgrade -- Red Dwarf

Total: 15 worked on in 2010, with 14 completed! That's good, considering that this time last year I had a count of 15 fics total. Of course, 4 of them were drabbles, and 5 were short little [livejournal.com profile] 50ficlets things that I didn't consider worth posting separately anywhere, so that really leaves 6 full-fledged fics in 2010, of which 5 were completed. Okay, yeah, those numbers look more like me now . . .

Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted?

About what I predicted, I think. Except I would've predicted that I'd be finished with Turn Again by now, drat it.

Where did you publish/archive your stories?

Teaspoon remains my main place for publishing, and I also post to my journal. The [livejournal.com profile] 50ficlets fics are posted at that comm, and then posted to my journal when I've gathered enough together for a batch post. The Yuletide fics are at Archive of Our Own.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2009?

I would never have predicted that I'd write so many drabbles this year! I used to hate drabbles. But I've started to appreciate them as a format, and when [personal profile] primsong created her "It Will Come for Your Children" series, I couldn't help but play along! I wrote three drabbles for that, plus one other drabble (Other Uses for Sonic Devices) which was a response to a drabble tag prompt.

What’s your favorite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest.

Break of Day. I really wanted to write a Sarah-meets-Eleven story, and even though it's been thoroughly jossed -- which I knew was inevitable when I wrote it -- it still gives me the warm fuzzies when I read it. Plus someone liked it well enough to translate it into Russian, so I can't help but be a little extra-fond of it now.

Okay, NOW your most popular story.

It's definitely The Spotter's Guide to the Doctor. That's not just my most popular story this year; it's quickly become my most popular story ever. Believe it or not, after I had written about 75% of it, I abandoned it because I didn't think it was funny enough. Then I happened across it months later and re-read it, and found myself laughing. I think I had just gotten too close to it to see the humor. Anyway, I'm glad I kept it around, re-read it and decided to finish it!

Story most underappreciated by the universe?

Underappreciated is such a hard thing to judge, isn't it? My lowest-reviewed stories were Remembered and my Yuletide fic Partners, but both had reviewers saying really nice things, so I don't think that either were underappreciated. The drabbles actually got a surprising number of reviews, but I think that's because most were part of Primsong's series.

Story that could have been better?

Hmmm. Well, Like Father, Like Son is my least favorite of the drabbles. It doesn't quite pull off what I was going for. Most of the [livejournal.com profile] 50ficlets ficlets could've been a lot better, but part of the point of doing that comm is to allow myself to write short pieces without worrying that much about quality. I'm happy that I've gotten some full-fledged fics out of the comm, including a personal favorite (Break of Day) and a Calufrax rec (On the Benefits of Having an Attic), but if I don't go back to allowing myself to write silly little things, I am never going to get through 50!

Sexiest story?

Remembered, because the Doctor kisses Sarah on the forehead in it. (Um, I should just take this category out of the meme, shouldn't I?)

Most fun story?

Most fun to write was On the Benefits of Having an Attic. I had a blast with it! I'm not sure which is the most fun to read, but it's probably either that one or Spotter's Guide.

Story with single sweetest moment?

I think it would be either the hug/kiss in Remembered or the hug in Break of Day. I don't know which one comes across as sweeter. Then there's Sarah putting Four's hat on in Getting There, which I like to think is a sweet moment. I think I need someone else to answer this for me.

The story that made you cry?

None of them, although Transformation probably came closest.

Hardest story to write?

Once more, it's Turn Again. But real progress is finally being made on it, and I WILL CONQUER! Just, um, most likely not by the end of 2010, unfortunately.

Easiest story to write?

Well, the drabbles take the least amount of time, but I don't know if that counts. I don't know if I should count the really short ficlets, either. Out of what I consider full-fledged stories, probably On the Benefits of Having an Attic was easiest to write, because I enjoyed it so much.

Most overdue story?

Turn Again, again. Maybe by this time next year I'll have a new answer for this question. That would be nice.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?

I think my biggest writing risk was joining the [livejournal.com profile] 50ficlets comm and trying to write 50 ficlets to prompts. Considering that I used to detest prompts, that's a pretty big challenge! I think I've learned that prompts can be good things. One of my goals for the comm was to also kick back and allow myself just to write without worrying about the quality of the outcome, but I don't think I've successfully learned how to do that yet.

Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?

I'd say my biggest goal is to finish Turn Again. Other than that, I would like to do more [livejournal.com profile] 50ficlets ficlets and try again to let them be silly little creative outlets. I still think there's a lot of potential to just letting myself write, then coming back later and picking out the good stuff and polishing it up. But first I have to write!

More specific goals:

I think those were pretty specific, actually! Um, what else? Well, it would be nice to write some more Eleven!fic. And I'm sure I'll be writing Sarah again, and hopefully I'll do more humor, too. I think that about covers it!

I feel so unproductive compared to everyone else, but at least I wrote more this year than last year!

Well, you know, it's not a competition unless you make it one!

It's definitely not a competition! In a competition, there's actually a question about who'd win . . . ; )

What a fruitful year! Also, Attic was also the funnest to read, I must admit! :)

(Is not putting more pressure on you concerning Turn Again. Not at all. Nope. But squee :)

I'm glad Attic was fun to read, because I had so much fun writing it! I just got to kick back, be tremendously silly, and put in fun little things like the Bay City Rollers and cybermat-as-garden-ornament. :D Spotter's Guide may be more popular, but it was a lot more work! In fact, I remember wondering if anyone would notice if I skipped a Doctor or two.

As for Turn Again, I would hold off on that squee until you see it. . . ; )

Oh, I'd forgotten this meme! :-)

Yay for fic. And I'm glad you're coming round to drabbles - done well they are an art form in themselves.

I've enjoyed so many of these - Break of Day, the Attic one, Spotters Guide...

Good luck with 2011!!

(And, eek, I've been so obscure with my fics this year that the 'underappreciated' category is going to have a whole queue... Oh, well.)

Well, I originally stole the meme from you last year, so I'm happy to remind you of it! : )

Thanks! It's not nearly as productive as it looks, as most of these are very short pieces (even some of what I'm calling "full-fledged fics" are really ficlets in terms of their length). But I did write, and these all exist, so that is good!
