Now that I've figured out the html code for posting a picture on LJ, I have to see if I can manage to get the lovely illustration that [personal profile] tempestas_inu drew for me of a scene from "Miles from Aberdeen" onto the fic itself at Teaspoon. Wish me luck!

Changing the subject completely, but has anyone seen Casanova with David Tennant? I just started watching some of it, and it's a bit of a trippy experience -- like watching the Tenth Doctor pretending to be a Venetian womanizer. I've seen David in other roles and never before been reminded of the Doctor, but there are so many scenes in Casanova where he sounds exactly the same, it just keeps hitting me in the face. I suppose it's not too surprising considering that Casanova was written by RTD, and David used the same accent for both roles (or close enough to my ignorant American ears), but the result is a very surreal experience.

And that's it for the rambling. I'd love to give an update on my writing, but it's currently dead in the water again. I'm busy tomorrow, but I'm going to sit down on Sunday and see how much of a marathon session I can pull off.

Yup - big fan of DT's Casanova (less of a fan of RTD's faily writing of women, AGAIN!, of course!)

I consider it sheer laziness on the part of RTD to write both Casanova and Ten with the same accent. I still don't know why Ten couldn't have had David's natural Scottish accent - it's not like the Doctor hadn't been Scottish before!

Sympathies on the writing thing - I'm still trying to finish writing chapter 6 of my original fic - but am also writing chunks of chapter 7 - blessed plot bunny! (Herman's a wicked one!)

Inserting images to Teaspoon isn't as easy as offering a link (to, eg, Photobucket) so good luck...

Oh, rats, I was afraid of that. Well, maybe I'll just stick in a link to the picture instead.

I don't think it was laziness, was it? My understanding is that RTD really thought that it was preferable for the Tenth Doctor to not have a Scottish accent. Something to do with following on from Eccleston's Northern accent, and not wanting to "do a tour of the regions" (not that I understand why that would be a problem, though). It's too bad, because I adore David's real accent, and I really wish he would get to use it more often in his acting! I especially wish he'd been able to use it for "Rex is Not Your Laywer" -- did you see the clip from the pilot that got posted around not long ago? I love David's acting, but his American accent was truly horrendous. Where's Nicola Bryant when you need her?

Yes, it really, really was! At least Nicola's accent was consistent (if grating) . . . David's went from New York to Chicago to Scotland to No Idea What the Hell Accent That's Supposed to Be. (Actually, that last pretty much sums up the whole thing.)

Which is why I consider it laziness - he knew David could do that godsawful mockney accent so he didn't bother letting David either use his real accent or do a different one. And no, I don't understand why Ten being Scottish after Nine's northern should be any kind of issue. Sometimes I worry about the way in which Rusty's brain works (or rather, doesn't seem to work!)

It is appalling - even to a non-American! I don't why he couldn't have used the accent he used in 'Of Mice and Men' - most people who've heard it have said that he did a much better American accent in that than in anything else. (And yes, I wish he could've been Scottish - they could've explained it as his parents being ex-pats - plenty of ex-pats retain their accents in other countries.)

Yep, or he could've been an ex-pat himself. We have plenty of people here from the UK.

I haven't heard his Of Mice and Men accent, but he could hardly have been worse. ; )

I'm sorry to hear your muse isn't stirring, I wish you the best of luck in trying to get it up and running again! I know what it feels like to not have inspiration, last year I barely drew anything beyond scribbles on my homework. Good luck :D

And man, I really should go and find some of Tennant's other stuff. Trippy experience aside (from what you've said, I can imagine it) I'm interested in both his portrayal of Casanova as well as his Hamlet.

I should stop posting about my muse not cooperating -- I feel like a whiny record! Hope it's not coming across that way.

I really enjoyed both Casanova and Hamlet. You can watch Hamlet legally, for free, at PBS' website here:

http://video.pbs.org/video/1473795626/

I highly recommend it!

Casanova I found on youtube -- search for "Tennant Casanova" and you'll find it. Be warned that the show includes sex scenes -- nothing super explicit, but it'd probably get an R rating here.

I totally meant to reply to this but I ended up not.

I feel like a whiny record! Hope it's not coming across that way. No it's not, it's totally fine, sometimes its good to vent, and I really don't mind.

Thanks for the links! I'll check 'em out. Funny, I got a Hamlet book for school the other day. I'm no longer taking the class the book was supposed to be for but I kept it for reading on my free time.

As for Casanova... I'll heed the warning, though its not like I haven't seen rated R stuff before :P.

LOL . . truthfully, the sex scenes are a very small part of the show, and they're mostly played for humor anyway, but I like to give people fair warning of what they're in for, especially as this is an unlocked journal and you never know who might be reading.

Indeed, indeed.

Unrelated to Casanova, but because I had also mentioned Hamlet and have no one else to say this to I'm just dumping it here. Like, literally moments after I received your reply, I ran into an old English teacher of mine and we chatted, and Hamlet came up because, like I said, I was originally supposed to take a class that went over that book. I just discovered my english teacher LOVED David's version of Hamlet XD. I mean, I guess its not too surprising that she saw it considering she *is* an english teacher, but it seemed kinda weird/neat to me.

Oh, you should absolutely watch David's Hamlet! He really makes the material come alive -- the whole production is fantastic, in fact, but David in particular is amazing. I'm not at all surprised that your English teacher loves it.

Speaking of non sequiturs, I should let you know that I have managed to successfully add your wonderful picture to the last chapter of "Miles from Aberdeen" on Teaspoon. Hopefully you like the way I credited you, but let me know if you want me to change anything. The picture still makes me smile every time I see it.

It is a shame about not using David's real accent, though.

Yep, the illustration was for Miles from Aberdeen, which remains my personal favorite out of all of my fanfics, mostly because it was total wish-fulfillment on my part. : )

It is! I love his real accent. Okay, I love the Scottish accent in general. I sometimes watch the Craig Ferguson show just to listen to Craig's accent.

(Not sure if you know Craig Ferguson over there -- he's a Scottish expat actor who hosts a late-night TV show here.)

I saw Casanova, but did not enjoy it. I just didn't like the writing. As for DT's accent in Rex is Not Your Lawyer, you're right. He made Nicola Bryant sound brilliant in comparison!

If you've ever manually added a picture on an LJ entry, it's the same way as it's done at Teaspoon. Type < img src="URL">

After you insert your image URL between the quotes, you have to remove the space after the <, but leave the space between img and src. Then your picture will show up.

ETA: And if for some reason you still do have a problem, PM me and I can add the picture to the story for you.

Thanks so much for the Teaspoon tip -- I did as you said, and the picture has now been successfully added! I wasn't sure if it would work the same way as on LJ until you said, so this was really helpful. I also appreciate your offer of assistance in case I couldn't figure it out -- thank you!

Oh dear, Casanova.

I ordered it cheap off Amazon after laughing myself silly at the confessional scene on Youtube. Then I watched it with my room mates and we all found it hilarious and now have far too many in jokes based on it. Chief among them being the fact that:
NAPLES DOES NOT EXIST.

I know, what was up with the Naples thing? I mean, I've been to Naples, and it sure looked like there were people there to me!

The confessional scene is indeed awesome.

It's funny how we both share this delusion of having visited Naples (I went there this spring) when the place clearly can't exist, because those scenes at the end of the movie clearly didn't happen...
