I've been having a very interesting time with the Yuletide challenge. A brief summary:

-- Dither over whether I should sign up or not, dither over which fandoms I should offer / request, sign up, and have the "oh my God, I can't believe I'm really going to do this!" moment.

-- Worry over the request I'm going to receive and the fandom it's going to be in.

-- Get the request! And it's a great request, and something I can do! Get tremendously excited.

-- Start to work on the fic, and start to think I can't do the request after all.

-- Continue to worry that I am not fulfilling what my recipient actually wants. This is partly based on the fact that I write the first 700 words without one of the requested characters making an appearance.

-- Think that I might need to dump my 700 words and start completely over.

-- Decide to continue on in this direction and see where it takes me. Hope that it takes me to somewhere in the vicinity of what my recipient requested. Roughly. Ish.

-- Spend three solid days over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend writing.

-- Finish the fic and stare at it.

Yep, I have finished my Yuletide fic, and it's not even December yet! I know, I can't believe it either. I also had no problem with the 1,000-word limit. Of course, it still needs to be beta'ed (working on getting a beta-reader now), and I might still find all sorts of things I want to change in it, but, um . . . yeah. I even think (hope) that it might be somewhere along the lines of what my recipient wants.

Oh, and I also reallly, really like it. Unfortunately, I now have a long wait until people will be able to actually read it. I knew there were advantages to procrastination . . . ; )

It is. It also takes up an amazing amount of time (there are all sorts of things I *should* have been doing this past weekend that I didn't get to). But, there's nothing quite like the feeling of having finished a story and feeling good about it. Then of course you post it and you find out whether it actually *is* any good or not . . . maybe it's not a bad thing that I have to wait. ; )

Oh yes! ENORMOUS amounts of time!

I always feel really good about finishing a fic, until I read it back and then I start worrying about all the things I should've done differently.

You;re doing better than I am. I haven't even finished my canon review. :/

Canon review was one of the most fun parts of the whole thing, and I had to stop myself from spending hours and hours reviewing pieces of the canon that were completely irrelevant to the prompt and my story. So, enjoy! And there's still lots of time -- and didn't you write like 8 stories last year? I don't know how you managed it, because even with having finished early, I don't think I'd be capable of taking on another prompt.

When the prompts are posted for treat writing you may change your mind. :)

And now my parents are gone, so here I go to review canon.
