Miscellaneous update post on writings past, present and future:

Past writing -- I recently completed and posted "Rosemary", which is basically a reaction fic to "The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith." Usually I am amazed at people who manage to write fanfic about an episode within a week of its airing, and now for the first time I've gone and done it myself. I think this is the fastest I have ever written a story. I had to get emotions out somehow, and now they're out. Whew! I also told myself that I really wasn't going to care what the response to the story was since I was writing it for my own therapy, but that was a lie. I yet again experienced the "no reviews on Teaspoon, oh no!" response until that little "0 reviews" tag finally changed. I really have to get over that, but I'm not sure how.

Present writing -- I still need to get fully into the next (possibly last) chapter of "Turn Again." I don't know what it is about that fic, but it's now holding the record for the slowest I have ever written a story, unless I count the still-unfinished "Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)" story from 9 years ago that's sitting on my hard drive right now. Anyway, at least it wasn't jossed by "The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith" (well, maybe just a little bit, but not much). I was a little worried when I found out that the episode was going to feature the Trickster, but there were no puzzle boxes in sight! Unfortunately, I now have to do some thinking about the extent to which I will try to incorporate new canon into what I have planned for the end of the story. What exactly is a pantheon of discord, anyway?

Future writing -- I am trying to decide if I will sign up for Yuletide for the first time. There are some fandoms I like on the list, although out of the three I'm thinking of requesting, two right now have no requests and no offers -- nice to know that even in an obscure fandoms list, my requests are obscure! Deadline-wise this would probably be a good year to participate since I am only working part-time right now (although deadlines still scare me -- have I mentioned "Turn Again"?). And prompts are optional details that don't have to be fulfilled, so I don't have to be worried about being assigned something I can't write. I think my biggest concern is the requirement to write 1,000 words since I still resent being handed a word limit. Several of my fics are under 1,000 words, and I like them that way, thank you very much, and I strongly believe that spinning them out to be longer would have weakened them as stories. The quality of a story is not dictated by its length! Okay, end of soapbox. Anyway, I know I could just wait and do a "treat" later, which isn't bound by the word limit and where I could totally choose whatever prompt I fancied without worrying about disappointing my assigned recipient because I ignored their optional details . . . but without the structure of the deadline, I'm unlikely to do it. At least, I didn't do it last year, even though I thought about it a lot.

Oh, what to do, what to do . . .

A great name for a band!

:D

Seriously, though, I imagine it's a bunch of eternals like the Trickster who love causing chaos anywhere and everywhere but who cannot easily manifest themselves in a particular universe... I guess you can think of them as gods of chaos/anarchy...

(You could always try asking Gareth Roberts - he's on Twitter, at least...)

Two problems with that: a) I'm not on Twitter; and b) I'm far too shy to do things like that. Anyway, I suspect that he left it vague on purpose.

Okay, but then was the beetle-on-the-back thing from "Turn Left" that we were told was part of the Trickster's brigade actually part of the Trickster?

Speaking of eternals, I also thought that the whole white cloak / black cloak thing was very interesting. It reminded me of the White Guardian and the Black Guardian . . .

Sorry, couldn't resist!

No doubt he did... He might want to explain it more later...

I suspect it's something he 'animated' to do his work for him...

I wouldn't be at all surprised if GR wasn't intending to fool (or try to fool) the kids with that one - after all, the good guys traditionally wear white!
