I'm ready to get down some of my thoughts about "Deep Breath."

Well, I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it. Some parts were good. Most parts were just okay. There wasn't anything that I actively hated, so at least there's that.

Twelve . . . not sure how I feel about him yet. This makes me sad because I absolutely adored Eleven right away, and I was hoping to also adore Twelve right away. But on the other hand, "Deep Breath" wasn't nearly as strong of an episode as "Eleventh Hour," so it's not really a fair comparison. Anyway, I didn't dislike Twelve, and Capaldi did an excellent acting job; I'm just not sure yet how much I'm going to like his version of the Doctor.

I really didn't like how Twelve treated Clara. I felt a definite "Six strangles Peri" vibe when he left her on the other side of that door. And back in the olden days, Six is the Doctor who got me to stop watching Doctor Who. Well, the poor writing of Six's stories didn't help, but Six himself was too unlikeable for me. I want my Doctors to have empathy, and actual connection to his companions, and I'm a little worried that Capaldi is deliberately trying to be more distant and a lot less likeable.

I also thought that Clara's reaction to Twelve was very strange. She's met other Doctors! She's the first companion in the history of the show to have met other Doctors before she witnessed a regeneration, so why did she have one of the worst reactions? Why was Vastra lecturing Clara about regeneration when if anything, it should have been the other way around? Even disregarding Clara's history -- and the ease with which she interacted with Ten and the War Doctor -- that reaction just doesn't fit her character. I think I know what happened, though. Steven Moffat got this admittedly great idea to have Matt Smith do an over-the-phone cameo, and in order to justify that scene, he decided that Clara had to not accept Twelve until Eleven asks her to. Nice idea, but it just doesn't make sense for her character. I do admit that I loved Matt Smith's cameo, though. It was the best part of the episode for me, and it helped wash away the bad taste of "Time of the Doctor." I'm happy that Matt got one last nice scene to go out on.

The clockwork robots were fine. No real complaints, but I'm not in a hurry to see them again. Although apparently I am going to see them again. Or at least, one of them, along with crazy-twirling-woman. That ending was really weird, and it didn't intrigue me at all. I don't even care about finding out more. Mostly I'm just worried that I'm not going to like what happens with it.

Did the guy jump, or did the Doctor push him? I did like how that scene was played. I also liked the broom replacement scene. I wonder if they're going to actually have the Doctor remember where he got the face from, and give us a reason for why his subconscious chose it for him. I don't know about the Doctor always getting his face from someone he met, though. Why would Six choose to remember Maxil, for example? But if it's something that just happened this one time, then okay, I'll go along with it.

Anyway, we are now officially into Twelve. Looking forward to Saturday's episode, and here's hoping that I will really like it!
