Help me find a rec?
Dec. 27th, 2013 04:33 pmI hope this doesn't come across as incredibly boastful, but I'm looking for a rec of one of my own stories. And, I'm not entirely sure it even exists. But one of my fics on AO3 has gotten a huge number of hits, and so I suspect that someone has linked to it somewhere. And while it's possible that they've linked to it as an example of a terrible fic, I think it's more likely that they linked to it because they enjoyed it. And either way, I would like to find out, but I can't find a reference to it anywhere (at least, not with my limited Google-Fu).
For anyone who has any ideas on the best way to pursue this, or who wants to help me figure out what's going on, here's the fic:
That One Time Gita Chandra Saved the Earth with Roses.
Oh, and one other possibility: maybe there's a bug, and AO3's hit rate is incorrect? All I know is that the numbers have been steadily climbing for awhile now. I don't remember when I first noticed, and my initial thought was that SJA fic must be more popular on AO3 than on Teaspoon, but now that it's received over 900 hits, I'm pretty sure there's something else happening.

Date: 2013-12-28 06:31 pm (UTC)It's just driving me crazy to think there's a link to it somewhere that I can't find, especially when it seems to be driving so much traffic to the fic. But maybe the hit rate is wrong.
Or, maybe your LotR/DW fic was recced somewhere in cyberspace! Or LotR fic gets a lot of hits? At least I know for a fact that SJA fic is not usually this popular.

Date: 2013-12-29 08:59 am (UTC)I can't find any sign of a rec, either, for you - sorry! (if you find my observation one while you're looking, let me know, because it must have been good...)
Part of it could be Yuletide, with people poking around in the fandom for that, but unless the SJA Yuletide fic hit counts compare, that wouldn't really explain it.
I've not been getting information while I've been home, but I'll try and see if anyone in Wrangling knows if there's a hit count bug. (It's more likely that your story got linked somewhere, though!)

Date: 2013-12-29 07:27 pm (UTC)I'm actually starting to think that with mine, the hit rate must be wrong. It's at 991 hits right now, and that is just ridiculously high. My other Gita fic on AO3 only has 35 hits. I also got two Gita fics for Yuletide, and well, one doesn't display a hit rate at all, but the other is at 77 hits. I think that even assuming there's a high-profile rec somewhere (that, somehow, no one can find when they look), the hit rate just doesn't make sense. A much more reasonable hit rate would be one hundred and something. And as a last piece of evidence, the fic doesn't have a high number of comments or kudos to go along with the elevated hits. (Of course, maybe 900 people dislike it . . . )
If you could check with your Wrangling resources, I'd be interested to hear what they say. No worries if you don't get around to it, though.
