Just finished watching the first half of the last episode of Sarah Jane Adventures, and it's hitting me how much I'm going to miss this show. I'm already feeling depressed about the loss of Lis Sladen all over again. Cancer sucks.

I haven't been in the mood to do a full reaction post on the S6 finale for Doctor Who, but I do want to note one small cameo:

Meredith Vieira! I was so surprised to see her on Doctor Who, I wasn't even sure it was really her at first. Then I watched the episode again, and yep, it was her. Who's Meredith Vieira, you ask? Well, if you're American, you likely know, but if you're not, you likely don't know. She's an anchor on a very popular morning program here in the U.S. called the Today Show. Or rather, I guess she used to be an anchor, as I just found out from wikipedia as I went to look up how to spell her name that she apparently has left the show. Did I mention I don't watch it? But I still know who Meredith Vieira is, and I still recognized her on Doctor Who.

Anyway, I went looking for more about this strange cameo, and I found the following video that apparently aired on the Today Show. It includes some great behind-the-scenes stuff about Meredith's experience on Doctor Who, including some bits with Alex Kingston and Matt Smith. Alex Kingston was featured more heavily, which confirms my suspicion that the whole event was intended as a way to advertise Doctor Who to American audiences (Americans tend to know Alex Kingston from ER, but only Doctor Who fans know Matt Smith).

The video is pretty spoiler-free except for the fact that Meredith has a cameo (which you know if you've read this far), and one line of dialogue that Meredith gets to say in the episode. Plus there are a few random, out-of-context shots that give away some aliens. And some out-of-context clips from S5 and S6. If you don't mind being spoiled for that, or you've seen everything already, enjoy the video:
(ETA: If you just see a blank space instead of the video, try clicking on the title of the post ("ramblings") -- that seems to bring it up. I'm not sure why it doesn't show up automatically; LJ is weird.
