I had a crazy busy weekend, and I'm following it up with a crazy busy work week -- I didn't even get the chance to watch the new Doctor Who episode until yesterday -- and things will remain busy for the next few days, but I feel like poking my head up above water for a quick post.
--The world is ending this weekend! Does that mean I don't have to finish this report for work after all? But wait, what about this season's Doctor Who story arc? Will there still be television for those of us left behind? (You can see where my priorities are . . . )
-- For those of us who don't think the world is about to end and want to keep watching Doctor Who, you might like to know that the S6 episodes become available for rent at the iTunes store shortly after their airdate. Very handy in case you don't get BBC America, or live in Australia. (Assuming Australians can access the iTunes store. You can, can't you?)
-- I got recced on Calufrax, yay! And can I confess something really silly? I'm especially pleased that I have finally gotten recced for a non-humor story. Not that I don't love humor stories -- I do, which is why I write and rec them so much -- but I did wonder if any of my non-humorous writing was worthy of getting recced. This feels like another little milestone reached.
Speaking of milestones, I should get back to work . . .

Who's in your icon, btw?
(no subject)
Date: 2011-05-20 01:37 pm (UTC)My new default icon! I am sooo glad you asked!! () It is young Alex Etel as Harry Gregson in the BBC's dramatisation of Cranford. (He is also in the film Millions). In my fave scene, Mr Carter (Philip Glenister) is teaching Harry his letters, making him paint them out on a barn wall (e.g. 'L is for Labour which gives a man purpose and pride', 'B is for Books which hold the key to almost everything') and once he has done, the letters spell out 'Liberty' and when Harry asks what the word is, Mr Carter just smiles to himself and tells him to paint over it before anyone sees. As someone who is v hot on the power of reading, I thought that was gorgeous (and if it really was from the original story, pretty revolutionary).
Don't worry. I don't think I've ever had that long an answer to 'who is in the icon' and I doubt I shall again. But I was so pleased to find it. :-) And you asked...

Date: 2011-05-19 05:20 am (UTC)Australia's going to be getting S6 - it was all over Twitter yesterday (mainly via doctor_who_news...)

Date: 2011-05-19 07:11 am (UTC)It's too bad that Australia will be getting S6 so far behind. I wonder if the episodes on the iTunes store are geo-locked? If I lived there -- or didn't already have BBC America -- I would absolutely rent them.
On the other hand, the split nature of this season means Australia will probably catch up before we see the second half, which is nice.

Date: 2011-05-19 04:35 pm (UTC):-) I'm only glad I finally got to rec one of your fics without some shameless person nipping in first on the week before me!
Good luck with everything - your absence was noted, as they say.

It really gave me a huge thrill, so thank you! It was very unexpected, too, especially after all your talk about reccing only one story per Doctor. You do realize that my fic is technically Eleven-era, right? Although Eleven doesn't appear in it at all . . .

Date: 2011-05-20 09:58 am (UTC)Your fic was a Sarah Jane fic and representative of the whole series in a funny sort of way, and was the perfect one to wrap up my themed (ish) series of recs - and be a tribute to Elisabeth Sladen at the same time. Besides, the other Eleven had Ten era characters so doubled up with another era also. See, only one fic per Doctor!! (Look, it works in my logic, in my head, don't worry.)

Date: 2011-05-21 05:54 am (UTC)No, actually it does make sense. Or at least, it makes at least as much sense as my arcane Calufrax-reccing rules make! : )

Date: 2011-05-19 05:26 pm (UTC)Although it won't end, because the Doctor would realise in 4 years that it has ended and will change the timeline. Granted, we're all going to wake up as dolphins on Monday morning, but - well, on the bright side, we'd get to sleep all the time! Half a brain at a time, true, but still.
And yaaaay! @ getting recced. It's always such a joy, isn't it? :)

Date: 2011-05-20 12:04 am (UTC)Dolphins? I haven't heard that part of it. That sounds like fun, though.
Getting recced is indeed a wonderful thing. I think I appreciate it even more now that I've been a reccer myself, and have experienced first-hand just how hard it is to choose which seven fics to rec.
