Feeling like there's some progress being made:
-- I donated to No on Prop 8, emailed people about it, blogged about it, and managed to contribute to two No on Prop 8 videos making the most-blogged-about-videos list on a search engine, with a link to my blog as the example in both cases! Which was great, and I only hope someone out there read what I had to say and got persuaded (and/or gave money to the cause). And just making those videos more high-profile was helpful too, because that means people might have clicked on the video even if they didn't bother to go to the blog. And hopefully the people who did go to the blog didn't think I'm just a crazy weird sci-fi fan who shouldn't be listened to (because depending on where they clicked they either got taken directly to the post or to the home page of my journal). So, I went back and flocked a few of the more personal and the more fannish posts just to be on the safe(r) side. While I know that yes, the whole internet has access to my public posts, there is a sense that only people already in the fandom are likely to come across them -- except when you start showing up on search engines. Anyway, I can now say that I have done something to keep discrimination from being written into my home state's constitution. Because there's no way in hell I'm taking that lying down.
-- I am writing again. I have about 1,000 words started of a story that is based on "Turn Left" -- and you know, for an episode that I really detested, it sure is inspiring me to write. The interesting thing is, I really don't quite know where the story is going. I started off with one idea, but so far things seem to be heading in a different direction. I don't even know right now if it will be a single or a multi-chapter story, nor do I have any sense of how long it will be. But I like it so far, and it will be interesting to see what happens.
-- Um, and that's about it, really. Haven't done the dishes, haven't done the laundry . . . but contributing to social justice and getting some writing done aren't a bad start to making progress.
