rewrite an episode meme

dbskylerI've had a busy day at work and things will only get busier as the week goes on, so to distract myself, and because I feel like posting something, I am proposing a meme:
If you could take one episode of Doctor Who -- classic, new series, doesn't matter -- and rewrite it as if you were the story editor, which episode would you choose, why would you choose it, and how would you change it?
I'm not talking about "fix-it" scenarios ("Donna doesn't lose her memory! Rose isn't stranded in the parallel world!") but rather "it would have been a really great episode if they had just done this instead of that." In other words, a realistic re-writing to improve the story rather than a going-to-town wish-fulfillment (for which there is already a mechanism in place, called fanfic).
I don't have an answer myself yet for Doctor Who -- I'll have to give it some thought -- but in the meantime if anyone has any ideas of their own, please take the meme and run with it. I do have an answer for an episode of Space: 1999 that I thought up years ago, and I'll share it if anyone is interested (but I really don't mind if no one is).
