Well that's the whole point of L&O: UK - that they kept everything the same. They're even using old scripts, but re-writing them for the UK legal system. It's not the sort of show I'd normally watch, but I started for the sake of seeing Freema in something else, and stayed for Freema, Ben (James) Daniels, Bill (George) Patterson, Bradley (Ronnie) Walsh, and Harriet (Natalie) Walter.
There's nothing wrong with Freema's accent! She's just using a slightly more formal diction, because she's playing a Crown Prosecutor, and playing Alesha nearer to her own age, instead of a few years younger like Martha.
I'm pleased as punch for Freema that the show's doing so well. They're currently filming a third set of 13 episodes, and ITV have ordered a fourth set - making the role of Alesha into Freema's longest TV role to date. She and Ben Daniels have got fantastic chemistry together - so much so that the writers are shipping them now (and this despite the fact that Ben's gay - but apparently he adores Freema 'cos she's as much of an L&O Nerd as he is! so he finds it easy to act like he fancies the pants off her! :P)
I believe Single Father's going to air in the US at some point - but no idea about anywhere else!
