7 DAYS UNTIL SARAH JANE ADVENTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am very, very excited.
As for "Death of the Doctor," I think I'm even more excited to see that than I was to see "The Big Bang." I hope it's just as good!
In other news, an apparent prop from SJA has shown up in the bookcase of BBC's new series, Sherlock. The prop in question is a book, Teleological Response of the Virus by Lavinia Smith. Lavinia Smith is, of course, the name of Sarah's aunt, and the work in question is mentioned by the Third Doctor in Sarah's first episode, "Time Warrior."
I have a couple of responses:
1) It's way, way cool that this prop book was created for SJA. I haven't ever seen it on the show, but maybe it will show up in this new series? Or maybe it's always been lurking in the background in the attic, and we just haven't noticed it yet.
2) I like that the book has traveled from SJA to Sherlock. In fact, I now want to see it make an appearance on other BBC shows! Because let's face it, every series can be improved by an obscure Doctor Who reference in the set dressing. : )

Date: 2010-10-05 03:07 pm (UTC)Also: that sneaky little crossover is AWESOME. Even if the idea of Sherlock and the Doctor existing in the same universe does slightly terrify me.
(I thought I had a SJS icon, but it seems ot have gone walkabout. Hmm.)

Date: 2010-10-05 04:33 pm (UTC)Well, the main show isn't even on again for months, so that seems perfectly logical to me. ; ) Also SJA is a really good show, and it's good in its own right, separate from the parent show. It is not just a "kiddie version" of Doctor Who, and if you look forward to it more, there's nothing at all wrong with that!
Yes, the sneaky crossover is awesome. I want that book to show up on all BBC shows now! It should be in Gaius' study on Merlin! It should be on George's bookshelf in Being Human! It should be in a car on Top Gear! Yes, Doctor Who exists in EVERY UNIVERSE! 'Tis canon.
Appropriate icon is appropriate
Date: 2010-10-05 04:42 pm (UTC)Why not expand from the book? Let's have Bessie on Top Gear, and Colin Morgan as the Doctor one day. Then the Doctor will be Merlin, and Battlefield's loose end gets resolved.
Not sure what to do about George though... I guess, now that we've established that Sherlock and DW exist in the same universe, Being Human could cross over with Sherlock with an epic serial-killer-catching spree in Bristol. John can nearly get bitten and Anderson will turn out to be a vampiric plant in the Forensic Science Service who's been planning to turn Sherlock for ages but never quite found the time.
Also, Mycroft is the only person on Earth who knows what's going on, and the Brigadier hates him for it.
Re: Appropriate icon is appropriate
Date: 2010-10-05 05:45 pm (UTC)LOL! Literally; you almost made me choke, here. :D But yes, Bessie on Top Gear! And then in the last episode of Merlin, Colin Morgan leaves the message "Dig hole here," sets up all those other little hanging threads from "Battlefield," then regenerates into William Hartnell and steals a police box! That would be awesome. Oh, and he also battles the Krillitane that has been ruling Camelot pretending to be Uther Pendragon, because Uther actually died twenty years ago. Unfortunately, the Krillitane gets away and becomes a headmaster at a school in Deffrey Vale.
OMG, IT ALL MAKES SENSE!!!!
Speaking of Doctor Who references on Top Gear, have you ever seen this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1G7Ou3-k_uA
Re: Appropriate icon is appropriate
Date: 2010-10-05 06:47 pm (UTC)THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN. Gaius then goes on to found the Holmes dynasty, of course.
Speaking of Doctor Who references on Top Gear, have you ever seen this?
OMG no! That's brilliant. Poor Daleks, they will never rule any predominantly bipedal universe.
(On a similar note, this.)
Re: Appropriate icon is appropriate
Date: 2010-10-05 08:50 pm (UTC)And yes, poor Daleks, defeated by a Honda Civic.
I really need to see Sherlock. It's finally airing here at the end of the month (I'm in the U.S.), and I wasn't particularly interested in it tbh, but everyone has been talking about how good it is, so now I want to see it.
Re: Appropriate icon is appropriate
Date: 2010-10-05 09:34 pm (UTC)Daleks vs Honda Civics reminds me of David Mitchell's argument that increasing access for disabled people is a Dalek plot to take over the world more efficiently, but I can't seem to find the clip on YouTube.

Date: 2010-10-05 06:25 am (UTC)Sherlock is airing here starting Oct. 24. I'll try to remember to watch it. I forgot about Law and Order: UK yesterday, so I have to wait until next week, or look for a rerun.

Date: 2010-10-05 07:26 am (UTC)It seems as if L&O: UK has gone down pretty well with viewers, if the Head Writer's reTweets yesterday were anything to go by!

Date: 2010-10-05 12:36 pm (UTC)I saw that post about Lavina Smith's book! Oh my god, that's awesome! Nice job of Moffat or whoever decorated that set connecting the Sherlock universe with the Doctor Who one somehow XD. I do have a question though, I know that it doesn't make sense to be anything else but do we know for sure that was a prop made for SJA? Hopefully it will make an appearance, or someone will find an old screencap that actually has that book in it.

Date: 2010-10-05 04:13 pm (UTC)Or that Sherlock and Doctor Who exist in the same studio...?
So, the running theory is that it's an SJA prop. Although wait, maybe it's a Doctor Who prop! Maybe it was in the background of the TARDIS console room! I swear, I want that book to show up everywhere now.
"Hello Sarah Jane."
I haven't seen that trailer; would that have been Matt Smith's voice, perchance? SQUEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess my one fear is that we'll only get the Eleventh Doctor for, like, five minutes at the end of the episode or something. I want some real interaction, I want at least one whole conversation, and, while I'm demanding things of an episode that's already written and filmed and won't change now, I WANT THE DOCTOR AND SARAH TO HUG! There.
Oh, and the Doctor can hug Jo, too. That's fine with me. In fact, it would be kind of sweet.

Date: 2010-10-05 05:42 pm (UTC)This is THE AWESOME TRAILER! (also points to shiny new icon)
This episode DEMANDS hugs, LOTS and LOTS of HUGS!

Date: 2010-10-05 06:13 pm (UTC)Now you've presented me with a trailer-watching dilemma. I like to avoid spoilers, but I don't avoid official announcements like episode titles and guest stars. Trailers are in between -- sometimes I watch them, and sometimes I don't. I've seen one SJA trailer so far, but I've been avoiding clicking on the others. But look, here's this one right here, and it looks very shiny. And it has Matt Smith's voice in it.
Yeah, I have a feeling I'm going to be clicking on it before the week is up . . . : )

Date: 2010-10-05 06:41 pm (UTC)Ah, that's right, you're the master at avoiding spoilers ^_^ Try as I might I can't seem to avoid them, though actually, I know very little about SJA at the moment. However, I do watch any trailers when they come out.
I'll just say that, I think this is the best trailer (read: it's the one thatgot me most excited) of the ones I've seen and leave it at that.Whether you choose to watch it is up to you.

Date: 2010-10-05 10:11 pm (UTC)Great trailer! Except now it's even harder to wait than before! I want to see that episode NOW!!!!
And oh yes, the rest of the season looks like it will be awesome, too.

Date: 2010-10-05 10:28 pm (UTC)I really can't wait. I hope the episode has alot of past references. There was already one in the trailer itself so I assume there will be XD.
This is the first time I'll watch the show as it airs, and this series looks really exciting!

Date: 2010-10-06 01:38 am (UTC)The episode is bound to have at least some references in it given that the last time Jo saw the Doctor was in, what, 1973? RTD knows his Doctor Who history, so sky's the limit on the references that he might have put in -- from Jo's husband to UNIT and the Brig to the Metebelis crystal to a throwaway joke about Drashigs, it's all possible.
