In my arbitrarily chosen day 4 for the meme, it's: favorite male character

I have trouble choosing favorites (one of the reasons I didn't try for all 30 days of this meme), but while thinking about this question, one particular character did come to mind. This character fills me with childhood nostalgia, and brings a smile to my face whenever I think of him.

My choice for favorite male character: Artemus Gordon from Wild, Wild West (wonderfully played by Ross Martin).

He was amazing. He was clever, and funny, and he had great disguises. He was a scientist and an inventor, and he could make gadgets that went whizz and bang using 19th century materials. He could have completely pwned Macgyver.

I wasn't able to find a Youtube video with the clips I wanted, but I did find a nice tribute video to the character that highlights his numerous disguises: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9f8qFUtd1g0&feature=PlayList&p=048C0BD757BD4823&playnext_from=PL&playnext=1&index=18

And while I'm talking Wild, Wild West, I just have to put in a word for one of the best television villains ever: Dr. Miguelito Loveless as portrayed by Michael Dunn. What a remarkable actor, and what a great character. If you've never seen him, or just want to be reminded of his greatness, here's a video with some Loveless clips: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ksy1GET6nqE&feature=related

What???!!!

It was a great show. It was this strange mix of western and sci-fi and spy show -- the two main characters were Secret Service agents in the late 1800s. They went up against super-villains, and plots to kill the president, and plots to break up peace treaties, and all sorts of strange, wonderful stuff. The show was made in the 1960's.

I can't believe that with all the crap TV we've exported to the UK, we didn't export Wild, Wild West. That's a travesty.

They made a movie about 10 years ago with Will Smith and Kevin Kline, but it was nowhere near as good as the television series.

I just looked it up on IMDB - it mostly aired before I was born, and then we were in Hong Kong in '69, so I'm guessing that's why I never saw it.

Yeah, I didn't see it on broadcast, either -- I caught it on syndication later as a child (ditto with Star Trek:TOS, which was made at roughly the same time).

They probably didn't even re-run it here - or they did and I was still too young to watch!
