Finished reccing Calufrax, and it was a lot of work but also a lot of fun. Once again I had a horrible time trying to narrow down a huge initial list to only 7 stories. Last time I recced, I had a different Doctor in every story (did anyone notice? They were Three, Six, Eight, Nine, Ten, Handy and Eleven), and this time the Doctor mix wasn't as good -- Ten showed up in five of the seven stories -- but I did get some good variation in genre, including a missing scene fic, a fix-it fic and a crossover, plus two Classic Who fics (I think Romana counts even though she was paired with Ten). I also managed to hit both SJA and Torchwood, neither of which I got in last time. Every story got some love from at least one new person, and really that's what it's all about in the end, so overall I'm very happy with how it went.

There's a new community that's dedicated to celebrating minor characters and original characters in Whoniverse fanfiction -- [profile] who_like_giants, in case you haven't seen it yet. Not that I expect anyone in particular from my flist to show up over there, except that I do. You know who you are.

Been re-watching Fourth Doctor episodes lately, which I needed after saying goodbye to Ten -- it's like slipping back into a comfy sweatshirt, and a nice reminder that while the actors move on, their episodes remain. Also, as much as I love David Tennant, there's nothing like revisiting one's first Doctor -- just watching those old Tom Baker -era opening credits with the two converging vortex lines is enough to instantly take me back to childhood, and put a huge grin on my face. Speaking of which, I'm really excited that "Masque of Mandragora" is coming out on DVD in a few months! Now if we can only get "Android Invasion," I'll be able to replace the entire contents of my old videotape that disintegrated.

I've been looking at the who_like_giants prompts... So far nothing's leaping out at me. And my ability to write remains dependent on my shoulder not being too agonising. :(

You don't have to write from a prompt. That doesn't take care of the shoulder problem, though -- hope that starts to feel better soon!

Well I know, but I have no minor-character ideas at present, so I was hoping a prompt might...

I'd quite like to rip my arm out.

Ah, well. Next time you'll rec, we're all gonna be in Eleven frenzy! Last opportunity to wallow in Ten. :)

Yes, that thought did occur to me, too; the fact that a lot of readers probably have Ten on their mind right now also helped me rationalize reccing a Ten-heavy set. Truthfully, though, I knew I had to do those seven when I could no longer bear to swap anything out. Also, in my defense, Ten appeared with a whole bunch of different companions -- the only one completely left out was, er, Rose. Oh well, it's not like there are that many Ten/Rose stories out there, right? ; ) But yes, a lot of Ten-era and Four-era . . . I guess my subconscious was seeping through there a little bit!

Ten/Rose stories... can't imagine you could find too many of these :)

As for subconscious seeping through, well, sometimes it's good for the soul to let it! Otherwise you might find it getting back at you by making you write tons and tons of Ten/Rose.

That would not be pretty . . . !!

I liked the look of all your recs even if I didn't get the chance tor ead many during the week.

And I shall check out that comm. Somehow I bet nobody is looking for stories with Leela's odd bunch of love-interests in, though, which is definitely wher I seem to have ended up.

In the ficathon, someone wanted a story about the Governeeuuuurrrr Governor from Vengeance on Varos. I have been thinking of writing a fic about that for an age, but couldn't imagine anyone wanting to read it. Mind, my idea wasn't exactly that...

Nice comm - thanks for the heads up. It's quite a laid-back ficathon, too. I'm havng a think, but I might sign up, the timing's quite cool.

YAY!!!!!!!! My work here is done. : )

(And even if you don't do the ficathon it's a place to post links to your MC / OC fic, which I notice you've done already. *g*)

Indeed.

And I know some other people who might like to do the same. :-)
