I've watched "The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith" part 1 twice now, and the last 5 minutes of it four times, and I'm so flail and squee that I have to post something, but there's no need for a spoiler cut because I'm too incoherent to put down anything other than OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OHMYGOD!!!!!

Yes, I liked that. A lot.

(And SJA? Remember what I said about your last episode? All is forgiven.)

I was actually a little afraid that the episode wouldn't live up to my hopes and expectations, but it so did -- I loved the whole thing, and really appreciated what a wonderfully written episode it was. Now my only concern is whether part 2 is going to joss the next part of "Turn Again," or possibly even pre-empt one of my ideas that's been in my notes from the beginning. But even if it does, I don't think I'm going to mind much -- it's hard to care about things like that when you're busy squeeing. : )

Oh I know what you mean about it possibly not living up to expectations. I was feeling the same way. I trust Gray Russell rather more than RTD (although I still refuse to accept last year's 'Temptation' as canon because SJS is NOT Rose!), so I had a bit more optimism - and it was nice to find it wasn't misplaced.

Me too. My relationship to RTD's writing is bipolar -- some of it I absolutely love, and some of it I absolutely despise. I was very happy to see Gary Russell's name on the opening credits!!

I guess it's been too long since I saw that episode, because you lost me on this -- care to elaborate?

I'm with you on the bipolar over RTD. Smith & Jones, and Midnight were some of his best writing ever. Then I look at the sprawling mess of the S3 and S4 finales and wonder how the same person could've written both things!

SJ's behaviour over seeing her parents. She's older, wiser and more mature than Rose - so her actions were, for me, much too OOC: she knew damn well the dangers of interfering in an established Time Line - much better than Rose did (in Father's Day), so there's just no excuse for what SJ did. It annoyed me because it made SJ seem a child. I mean, I get that she wanted to see her parents and how they treated her child self for herself - that I can understand and accept. What I cannot accept is her saving their lives - SJA!Sarah is not *that* impulsive.

Ahh, yes, now I see -- thanks. You're right, Sarah does know better than Rose (especially "Father's Day" Rose, but I would argue that she knows better than Rose, period), and it was OOC of her to change the timeline. Personally I was able to close my eyes and go with it anyway, but yes, it was annoying to have that in there.

I wouldn't have minded if the Trickster had actually *tricked* SJ into changing her own Time Line - but he didn't need to, she did it, and she did it with Luke warning her not to.

Yes, it would've made more sense the other way around -- if the Trickster had gotten Luke to change the timeline as a nice thing to do for his mum while she warned him not to do it.
