Miscellany post, and here we go:

-- "Claws of Axos" is on its way via Netflix, due to arrive tomorrow! Yay, I've been in the mood for some Third Doctor. Sadly, though, I have to confess that I actually have no idea if I've ever seen this episode before. I know it's Third Doctor, I know it has the Master in it, and um, presumably Axons, and claws? It's really quite possible that I've never seen it. It's also possible that I'll start watching and go "oh yeah, this one." Anyway, I'm looking forward to it, especially since as of right now I have no idea what happens in the story. Oooh, maybe aliens will try to invade the Earth, and the Doctor will stop them!

-- Saw "Planet of the Dead" in the official BBC America premiere, and actually liked it better than the first time I (unofficially) saw it. Although I did keep thinking of the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre's parody while I was watching, which meant I laughed at strangely inappropriate moments (especially when that alien hand was poking at the video monitor). Anyway, BBC America should be happy to know that despite having seen it before, I a) DVR'ed it; b) VCR'ed it (partly as back-up, partly because I'm moving soon and the DVR is going bye-bye); and c) watched the whole thing at the actual time of broadcast, including sitting through every damn one of those eharmony.com commercials. And what was up with those, anyway? Is there this belief that Doctor Who fans are all single or something? (And okay, yes I am single, but really not the point.)

-- Several people on my flist recently celebrated LJ anniversaries, which inspired me to go back and figure out when I made my first LJ post, since I didn't know. And, um, yeah, turns out I totally missed the one-year anniversary (it was July 8, in case anyone wants to know). Also I re-read my very first post, which contained a lot of whinging about how my fanfic writing was going, the Doctor Who broadcast schedule, and avoiding spoilers. So, not much has changed in the past year . . . ; )

-- I'd offer up something to celebrate my little-over-a-year LJ anniversary, but I already force commentaries on people with my "first draft" posts, and if I were to offer to write people something based on a prompt, it would probably be another year before anything came out of it. But if anyone has any ideas, I'm open to suggestion!

Claws was one of the first (if not the first) Third Doctor stories I ever saw, and I spent quite a bit of going "OMGWTFBBQ!" I must admit I've not re-watched it since seeing many other Third Doctor stories - partly because I found the monsters too cheesy - and the Master doesn't really work as a villain for me.

A belated happy LJ-versary! :D

(I'm hoping to get some of the promised fics written next week - once I finish up the first of my Martha/Eight AU fics!)

I think the odds are that I've never seen "Claws" -- cheesy monsters sound memorable, but I've got no idea what they're going to look like. We'll see . . .

A belated happy LJ-versary!

Thanks! Kind of weird to think I've been doing this for a whole year, actually. And that I'm still blogging about the exact same things. You'll have to give me a good kick when I get too boring and repetitive. Your kick about "Turn Again" has worked, by the way, because definite progress is again being made.

Oooh, lookng forward to it -- and still psyched that my prompt is one of the ones that got picked!

I called them bowl-of-spaghetti monsters, 'cos they looked like they were made from that!

*grins* I was looking at it again this morning and got a little nibble...

I loved Claws, the Axons seemed pretty freaky, the monsters looked like enormous neurons shooting dendrites at people and I was a psych student so... well, I thought it was cool. You get a couple good explosions, some UNIT whump and some nice Jo-Three moments, plus a fake American accent guy *and* some one the *best* Doctor-Master forced to be allies scenes ever. A great mixed fruit-bowl of cheesy goodness - enjoy!

Now hold on, better than "Logopolis"?

Wow, none of this is ringing any bells. I really think I've never seen it!

Well, firstly congratulations on your anniversary, too. :-D

I like Claws of Axos as well. The Master alone in the Doctor's TARDIS, giving his opinion of the state of the ship is worth it alone. But then I just love the Master. The Delgado Master, obviously.

And not only the Doctor and the Master forced to work together (and [livejournal.com profile] primsong is right) but the Master and the Brigadier are-forced-to-work together and the Master's lovely lines on the subject of precautions against nuclear explosions. *coughs* How much I love the Master is a little worrying. This means that compared to yet another poor local yokel/tramp coming to a sticky end, Jo Grant's legs going as purple as her dress, and the Master, who's looking at the aliens? They are at least quite unusal.

Cheesy is the word, but definitely fun cheesy, with a full UNIT team and the Master.

And official congratulations to you, too. That's so funny that we started on LJ at almost the same time!

I think I'm going to enjoy "Claws" a lot. "Fun cheesy" is one of my favorite types of TV to watch. Unfortunately work is keeping me crazy-busy at the moment (didn't get home tonight until 11 p.m.), but the weekend is coming up soon!

Isn't it?

You'll have to post your verdict here. I really love the Master and the Brigadier so much that any show that has them working together, even if it's only for five minutes, can hardly be that bad!!
