randomly generated fic rec
Jun. 16th, 2009 09:03 amIt feels like I've been doing a lot of posting about my own stories lately, so time to post about somebody else's!
A randomly generated fic rec is simply my way of spreading the fic-love around. While the Calufrax recommendations are great, there are a lot of stories that go unnoticed. This is my attempt to rectify that a little. To mix things up, and to keep myself from getting into a recommendation rut, I go to the Doctor Who Random Pairing Generator, here, then choose a fanfic story to recommend that is related to one or both of the characters that come up. If I can't think of a good story to recommend based on the first pairing of characters, I click again to get a new pairing. My only rule is I will not recommend a story that has already been recommended on Calufrax, since that defeats the purpose of spreading recommendations around.
Randomly generated character: Fitz Kreiner
Fic: Zum Abschied
Author: schildkroet
Author's summary: Once, when he's feeling down, Fitz has a conversation with a stranger who can't help him.
Characters: Fitz Kreiner, the Doctor (10th)
Rating: All ages
Spoilers: None
Length: 2253 words
Why the rec: It's about what happens to the companions the Doctor leaves behind. I'm not familiar with Fitz Kreiner, and I'm also not familiar with the particular book referenced in the author's note for the story (EDA "Demontage"). Also, there's some German in the story, and I don't speak German. And yet, I still found this an incredibly powerful story. Go give it a try.

Date: 2009-06-17 05:46 pm (UTC)I just tend to play around with it till I get a pairing that makes me giggle insanely and then I jot it down and wait for inspiration to strike. (How about Polly/Andred/hate for complete insanity?)
*Thinks* I've read Demontage. I can't remember anything except the cover. However, this only says stuff about the state of my memory. I'll have to check out the story. I'm not mad over all the EDAs, but I did get quite fond of Fitz at the time.

Date: 2009-06-18 07:11 pm (UTC)Don't worry, I am the sort of person who almost likes exams because of that moment of being left alone with pencil, paper and a question (I hate revision, though. And bilingual exam papers. I went to uni at Aberustwyth in Wales and they lay out the exam papers Welsh side up. Got me every single time.) But at least with this you just keep going till you get one so silly it has to be written.
I am indebted to it for Tegan/First Doctor/ shopping, which gave me a fun Christmas story; also Benny/Seven/Yeti (hah) and Bambera / Fourth Doctor / Don't drink the water.
You write what you like!
