Doctor Who

So is anyone on my flist still watching Doctor Who? I actually saw the series finale and am interested to hear what other people thought of it.

Partly I'm asking because I'm feeling pretty "meh" about it myself. That was the most "Doctor-ish" I have seen Chibnall write the Thirteenth Doctor, but I didn't much care for the plot or its consequences.

I am still watching, but I've been a bit tired and ill and not up to major Chris Chibnall developments, so I'm saving the last two for later. Not very helpful!

Ironically, this one and the Ruth episode are the only two I've watched this series. I am now to the point where I mostly can't stand watching the show, but I also feel weird about not knowing what's going on, so I actively seek out spoilers to "keep up" without having to actually watch. Sigh.

But the strategy led me to go back and watch two episodes that I was actually able to keep the TV on for all the way through (unlike "Spyfall," that I couldn't bear to keep watching even after learning about the upcoming reveal). And then the finale gave us what can only be described as a major Chris Chibnall development, delivered in his typical lots-of-exposition-but-no-emotional-stakes way. So you might want to save it for awhile longer. ; )

Yeah, I woke up to many spoilers on Monday morning, none of which make me feel keener to watch it. Not in a Chris Chibnall anyway. I'll get to it when I feel up to it, I think.

I've enjoyed some of the eps... mostly the ones not written by Chibnall!

I found it depressing. Chibnall's written out a lot of elements of the show that I like, and I don't care for the Doctor's new origin story and the way it breaks the symmetry between the Doctor and the Master.

Yes, "half-human on my mother's side" is actually starting to look good in comparison.

I don't like it when they make the Dr the 'special' one.

Totally agree. I miss the days when the Doctor was a not-very-important Time Lord who was only special because he interfered and tried to make things better. It meant that anyone could be special, and specialness comes from what you choose to do.

Exactly and as a sort of kid's show I think it's important to keep that message and not bin it in favour of being born the chosen one where you have no control over your destiny.

I have been very "meh" as well. I forget whether it's only the last two, or the last three episodes still on the DVR to watch. Mainly what I have been seeing on Tumblr amounts to gifsets expressing the idea of RTD and Moffat fans who might otherwise yell at one another banding together in their "WTF Chibnall?"

That's a very amusing mental image! I might need to venture over to Tumblr to try to see that.
