Batman Lego Movie

Saw the Batman Lego movie last night, and it was awesome! It's now become my favorite Batman movie ever. Of course, it didn't hurt that it had that surprise appearance by those villains, described wonderfully as:



"British robots! Ask your geek friends."

(If you haven't seen the movie and can't guess what they were from this description, they were Daleks. Yes, Batman battled Daleks in this movie. Which automatically increased its awesomeness by a factor of a thousand, but it would have been awesome even without that.)

I figured it was because they're a BBC property and all the other villains were from Warner Brothers movies (which made the Lego Batman movie), but I forgot about the additional permission needed from the Terry Nation Estate. I bet you're right.

It was really fun to see them show up, though! They even got to say "exterminate."

I haven't even seen the first Batman LEGO movie but I want to. It sounds right up my alley!

And that spoiler sounds like especially awesome. Wonderful! They really do get everywhere. I also once laughed when one of the Shaun the sheep sheeps dressed up as one for Halloween. And I do remember watching a MacGyver episode where he almost was killed by an automatic security system that looked like trash cans rolling around and surely was inspired by Daleks.

It's kinda funny how via "Gotham" I suddenly find myself back in the Batman fandom ;) I always considered myself more a Superman kind of girl, but I have seen movies and I have read novels (not so much into comics actually) and I know enough about it so it's not all entirely new and it's nice coming back to it and dive in deeper and leaern more (and I always wanted a big mansion with a butler *sigh*).

So, guess I need to get out my Batman figure and the Daleks, eh? *makes a note*

The first Lego movie had Batman as a character, but other than that, there's no real connection between the two. They're both great, but I really, really enjoyed this one. It has all the fun of taking all your favorite characters from different franchises and smushing them all together. It's also funny, and full of in-jokes (including ones for those of us who've seen the 1960's live-action Batman with Adam West!), and it has a genuinely interesting story. I highly recommend it!

And yes, go pose your Batman figure with your Daleks! : )

Ah, right, thanks. I wasn't sure whether I wanted to go to the cinema for it so am still waiting for it to come to TV.

I'm afraid that even though I've seen (some?) Adam West episodes I don't remember anything, as this was the time when we had freshly gotten West German TV and were watching pretty much 24/7 ;) Even commercials with amazement. But it was all a bit much input at once.

Guess what happened? In the evening of the same day I had written this comment, I happened to look into the TV paper and see that the LEGO movie was on that evening. Free TV premiere. That's fate!

I just finished watching and I can now understand all the praise for it. I admit I had been a bit sceptical, as I am usually not much into animated movies (other than classic Disneys and Shrek, Happy Feet also was great and one of these days I may even watch Toy Story). One of the reasons is that I just can't stand all those screechy over the top loud voices.

It helped a lot that here we had people speaking normal! The movie did indeed have charm and was fascinating to watch with all the different worlds and how things got built and destroyed.

Batman was a very fun character in this one with an awesome (German) voice. I can see now how a movie set in his universe will be even more awesome. I probably won't watch it in the cinema though, I love being able to stop and go back and watch a scene again or in slow motion, if things happen too quickly, especially with all the visuals and side gags.

I did not grow up with LEGO but with similar blocks. There were not as many special variants, only the main blocks in just one color but I loved to play with them and build stuff. I figure me now working in an engineer's office and drawing plans for real buildings is the logic conclusion from that!

Yay, I'm glad you saw it and enjoyed it. Let me know what you think of the Batman Lego movie once you get to see it (it too will surely come around on your TV eventually).

They didn't have all the special Lego variants when I was a kid; I had to make do with regular old Lego blocks. I was shocked when Star Wars showed up in the Lego movie, and a family member had to explain to me that they make Star Wars Lego now.

Building from sets is dangerous because once you have the set finished you don't want to destroy it again and therefore no real creativity is used to construct something original. I guess you and me had it better in this regard!

I may get it on DVD from the library in a few months instead of waiting two or more years. Especially since I am in full Batman mood right now (still catching up with Gotham, having dug out my old comics to re-read them and even having signed up for a convention now, oh boy! Went down the slippery road very fast!)

They do even make Doctor Who Lego now. It's one of those sets that was invented by a fan, collected enough signatures and then got made. But I don't like it much. I already have lots of similar figures from the Character Building blind bags which are much cuter than the official ones. The official ones also are an odd mix of figures and sets that don't really fit together. Like the first Doctor in the Eleventh Doctor's TARDIS.

I was also very happy when I found that Star Trek Mega Bloks bridge set. It was the very first set of this kind that I put together (and of course I'll never take it apart again LOL). There is no official Star Trek Lego either but there were some Kre-O sets for the new movies.
