Stop-and-go Yuletide

My Yuletide fic is driving me slightly crazy. I get an idea for the next bit, I write it, then I get stuck. Then I'm stuck, stuck, stuck . . . then I get an idea for the next bit, I write it, then I'm stuck again. It's like my muse is wading through a pool of treacle or something.

On the bright side, I've passed the magic 1,000-word mark, and it's only mid-November, so odds are it'll actually be finished early despite the crazy stop-and-go progress. I just wish I could keep the writing going for more than a small bit at a time. Flow, damn you, flow!

You have words!! That is brilliant! I'm sorry about the stop-start-ness, but still, words are good.

I should go get some of them. I mean, I have a few notes and ideas in my head, but I think words ought to happen now, really?

Yes, words are good! Notes and ideas are also very good, though.

Can you write down your notes and ideas? Then you would have words. Not the type of words you want, but for me, ideas that are written down are more likely to lead to other written words than are ideas in my head. It's like you've sat down with them and said "See idea, this is the kind of thing I want you to do," and the idea goes "oh, now I get it!"

The notes are things I wrote down; the ideas are what's still in my head. I think I just need more canon before I reach the tipping point, which is a little unnerving, but does tend to be how I often work.

Ah yes, that does make more sense than notes in your head. Of course, when I'm writing a fic, I completely lose track of what's in my head, so in-the-head notes would probably come in handy.

I know what you mean about the "tipping point." Good luck with it!

Yes, clearly when I write my words down, I need to also pay attention to what I do with them and if they make sense. :-)

Also, I wrote words last night, so tipping point reached! \o/ And good luck with finishing yours, too - I'm sure it'll be marvellous!
