Really happy to finally be able to post a squeeful review of a Twelfth Doctor episode! This was marvelous. I don't think I've laughed that much at a Doctor Who episode since "City of Death."

Favorite parts:

-- The Doctor insisting that it can't possibly be Robin Hood, and suspiciously sonic-ing everyone and everything in sight! I loved the bit with the apple! Oh, and the "have you ever been to Nottingham?" line was hysterical. Except now I wonder how hard it was for the film crew to find sunny days for filming, especially in Wales!

-- Every single reaction Twelve had to Robin, and every single reaction Robin had to Twelve. Lots of scenes reminded me of "The Two Doctors" with Six and Two having a go at each other. Especially when they were chained up together in the dungeon.

-- Twelve being all childish, and sulky. Shades of Four, there. I especially liked him boasting about how long it would take him to die of old age.

--How great Clara was in this. It's nice to see her kicking ass.

A couple of little quibbles -- I could've done without the protracted "you're a legend, just like the Doctor" scene at the end -- but overall, an incredibly fun ride. Best of all, I really liked Twelve in this. Still don't think he's going to be one of my favorite Doctors, but I do want to like him!

I really enjoyed this one too! I'm going to like Twelve a lot, but to me the directing in the first 2 episodes was really bad. I was not holding out much hope for this episode since I generally don't care for Mark Gatiss' Doctor Who writing (although he does fantastic writing for Sherlock). I was pleasantly surprised! I also loved the banter between the Doctor and Robin, I thought it had a very Princess Bride feel to it. And SNEAKY TROUGHTON PICTURE! I loved it! The o ly part I could have done without is Clara being so starstruck over Robin.

I wasn't holding out much hope for this episode either, but it's wonderful to be pleasantly surprised! It does have a Princess Bride feel to it, doesn't it? In fact, the Sheriff kind of reminded me of Count Rugen.

I didn't catch the Troughton picture, but I've since seen it around LJ. Very cool inclusion!

Considering this ep's by Mark Gatiss, whom I do not rate highly as a writer (or an actor for that matter), I enjoyed it quite a lot.

And at least the narrative was coherent this time.

LOL, I feel exactly the same about Mark Gatiss. But he did well this time. And yes, the narrative was coherent!

Heh. I was searching for a comparatively funny episode and City of Death was all I could come up with too. Great praise indeed!

It's also seemingly done the impossible feat of more or less pleasing all of fandom.

Yes, there really should be more comedy episodes in Doctor who! I was surprised when I had to go all the way back to City of Death for a comparison. It deserves the honor, although Robot of Sherwood didn't have John Cleese in it. They should get on that, too. ; )
