If someone had asked me what was the one thing that I wanted most of all in the 50th anniversary special, that I was absolutely certain would never, ever happen . . .

TOM BAKER THAT WAS TOM BAKER WE GOT TOM BAKER AS THE DOCTOR OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And now that that's off my chest . . .

Wow, what a great anniversary episode. I'm sure I'll write a more coherent reaction post later, but for now I'm too busy flailing over Tom Baker.

After having it for two weeks (birthday pressie), I finally listened to Big Finish's 50th anniversary story - The Light at the End - this afternoon. And it is absolutely bloody brilliant - THE best BF audio in the history of ever...

So I was really considering not bothering to watch the TV ep because I couldn't see how it was going to live up to such a high standard. But I'm so glad I did, because actually, Moffat did the show proud - I did enjoy it, and they used BP in a way that I found bearable.

Plus KKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEEEEE! And ALL the cameos, including Peter Capaldi...

Yeah - I'll definitely join you in the flailing!

Honestly, I was worried going into it -- what if I hated it? But Moffat really did do a fantastic job. I had a moment of dread when it looked like Billie Piper was going to be "Bad Wolf Rose" (I hate Super!Rose), but then it turned out that she wasn't, and all was okay again.

Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, and photos of companions (did you spot Harry?), and clips from everyone including Capaldi (!), and oh yeah, some old actor who showed up there at the end WHICH I AM STILL FLAILING OVER.

I did spot Harry, and Sarah Jane and the Brig and Susan and so many more...

And Kate was so great. I loved the line to the Zygon about checking its memory for a man named Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart - though it did remind me of that line of River's to the Dalek about checking its records.

Just thinking about it is making me grin and also want to weep a little.

I still can't believe we got Tom Baker back as the Doctor. I've been waiting for that since about, oh, 1981 or so. :D

IT WAS THE BEST ANNIVERSARY PRESENT EVER!!!!!!!!!!!! Honestly, I keep thinking it over, and I just get more and more impressed with it. It had a genuinely moving story, plus invading aliens and running around, plus tons of nods to the past going all the way back to 1963 -- and let's not forget that nod to the future with the shot of Capaldi!

I get to see it in a 3D movie theater on Monday night -- can't wait!
