dbskyler: (Ten looking up)

So it's looking like I am actually going to finish my most longstanding WIP! I am currently just half-a-scene away from completion, which is a big deal considering that I started this thing around, um, 12 years ago? I think that's about right.

It's Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) fanfic (based on the original, 1969 version), which means two things: 1) it's a British show, so needs to be Britpicked; and 2) probably very few people on my flist know the fandom, let alone are interested in it.

But hope springs eternal, so I'm throwing this out here: anyone interested in Britpicking it for me?

I know I don't bother with Britpicking my Whoniverse fanfic most of the time (and seem to get away with it), but I started writing this ages before I started writing for Doctor Who, and so I would be shocked if there weren't lurking Americanisms in it. I'd look for them myself, but I'm far better at stopping myself from putting in an Americanism than at noticing one that's already there (because it just looks so normal to me).

Obviously it would be best if the hardy soul who agreed to do this was familiar with Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) -- even better, liked the show -- but I'm confident in my characterization, so it's really the Britpicking that I'm after, and familiarity isn't a necessity. General beta-reading comments are of course also very welcome.

One more important thing before you volunteer: it's long. It's currently 25,773 words, and as I said, I'm still half-a-scene away from finishing it. So if you just want to take on part of it, that's fine (and still very much appreciated).

Oh, and content notes: it's basically casefile fic, although it does contain one canon pairing (Marty/Jeannie). Rating is G / all ages. Characters are Marty, Jeff, Jeannie, and some OCs. If you're completely unfamiliar with the fandom, you should know that Marty's a ghost, Jeff is his partner, and Jeannie is his widow. Marty and Jeff run a detective agency. If there's any more information you would like before volunteering, just ask. Also feel free to ask to try the fic out; I promise not to be offended if you then back out if you discover it's just not your thing.

In fact, as I just remembered, the very first part of this story is posted at AO3 because I donated it to Yuletide (with elynross' permission; it roughly matched a request of someone without a story as of Dec. 23rd or so, and I was honest about it coming from an unpublished WIP). So if you want a surreptitious taste, you can find it here: http://archiveofourown.org/works/38048

Haven't seen R&HD since it aired, but I'm up for Brit-picking and Beta-reading for you. So long as you don't want all 25000+ words done in 2 days time or something.

Since you already have suggestions to do britpicking and betaing (which I can't really do anyway), I'm gonna go with simply saying WOOHOO!! \0/

EDIT: oops. That was not meant as a reply to Pers.... /0\

Oh, yay! \o/

I can see Pers has got you covered. But, you know, if there's anything specific you want to check (what with me watching all the British TV from the era - well, apart from that...) do ask.

(Like smoking a pipe is cheaper in the long run, so you should invest in one and give up the cigarettes. *nod* I learned that from Special Branch, which was a lot about smoking.)

But generally \o/ for you writing - I'm so pleased!

Oh yay, thank you so much!!! And no, there's no rush or anything. I'll send it to you one chapter at a time, and you can choose your own schedule. In fact, the longer you take, the better the odds that I'll actually be done by the time you get to the last chapter. : )

LOL, a 1960s-television-era beta! Just what every fandom needs. (Every good fandom, that is.) : )

I'll definitely keep that in mind if Pers or I come across anything that needs doublechecking, thank you!
