So I suspect I'm in the minority here, but I'm very disappointed with the two "Pond Life" minisodes (or rather, mini-minisodes) we've gotten so far. Maybe it's because I've been spoiled by things like the missing scene minisodes for S5, and the "Night and the Doctor" minisodes for S6, but I expected something that was actually a bit of a story, and not just a slicker version of a series promo.

Or if you're just going to do a series promo, how about something simple but heart-stopping, like the prequel to "Let's Kill Hitler"?

So far, I'd say they're not worth going out of your way to watch. As a quick influx of Doctor Who they're fine, but there's nothing to them; you're definitely not missing out on anything.

Well, as they're under a minute, I figured I couldn't be missing *much*!

They're a bit...fluffy, I agree. I thought the Nixon prequel for the start of S6 was, by contrast ace - intriguing, a little creepy, well-directed and written. Yes, a bit insubstantial these ones, I'd say.

Fluffy, yes, that's a good word for them. And unlike the Nixon prequel -- which I agree was very good -- they haven't given us any real idea of what to expect in S7 beyond "It's going to be Doctor Who!" Which, you know, I had kind of figured out already. ; )

I made a point of watching Part 3 before replying to you, in case it moved off in a different direction. But it didn't. A pleasant enough way to pass a minute, I guess.

Well, they're nicer than nothing. :-)

But they were written by Chris Chibnall, what do you expect?

;-p

(Oh, my, I'm going to have to behave myself when and if he starts being showrunner.)

True, they're a chance to see Matt, Karen and Arthur on the TV screen, so there's that. I'd probably like them better if past prequels / minisodes hadn't been far superior.

I honestly didn't have any major preconceptions based on them being written by Chris Chibnall. I haven't really paid attention to what else he's written. He's penned some clunkers, I'm assuming?

I didn't know they were written by him till I saw the end credits. So I'm amused - he managed to irritate me twice in 50 seconds in the first one and I was feeling sadly that perhaps I put too much faith in Steven Moffatt after all - and then it just turned out to be my Chibnall allergy.

I don't know? I just have an allergy to his writing, dialogue and philosophy. So I have to shut up or not watch things when he writes them. Most other people quite like his stuff and he's not a bad writer as such - just nails down the blackboard to me! ;-) I have resolved to like his two episodes in the upcoming set, because I hate not liking DW. I will do it! *resolve!face*

Anyway, I have no probs with a little extra of the Eleventy era team each day.

I'm extra lucky, too - I have TWO new episodes of DW coming up this weekend, as on Friday BBC3 is finally repeating the Christmas special. \o/
