I've been being very, very careful about what I look at and click on lately, as all the build-up to S6 has been . . . building up (and oh, how I wish I still lived in New York City! The events happening over there sound awesome.)

So today, I found out about a new community that is geared towards Tennant and Tate's "Much Ado About Nothing." I look at the profile page, and it says that people can share information about the play once it's started. Automatically I think, "Uh-oh, I'd better not watch this community then, because people will be talking about what happens in the play before I've seen it."

Then there's this little mental pause in my brain, before . . .

"Much Ado About Nothing." The Shakespeare play.

Never mind . . .

LOL! :D

(Me, I've always been pretty much the reverse of a spoilerphobe - which can work against me, sometimes, but it did enable me to participate in quite a few in-depth philosophical discussions about the "End of Time" two-parter without ever seeing the thing! *g*

If it enabled you to get away with not watching "End of Time," well done! (I hated that episode . . . )

As for me, I am usually a big spoilerphobe. Strangely, though, I haven't been avoiding Torchwood spoilers. I think it's because I'm not very excited about the new series, and I'm looking for something to get me interested in it.

Century old spoilers eh?

I was happily consuming spoilers for a bit, but now that people have actually SEEN the episodes I've got to step back and put my fingers in my ears. There's a point where they go from tantalizing peeks and speculation fuel to, well, actually spoiling things.

When DT was in Hamlet, I remember people were joking about spoilers: "Wait, Hamlet dies?"

Speculation is fun, but I stopped reading those posts as soon as set photos started cropping up. And now that people have actually seen the premiere? Yeah, pretty much not clicking on anything anymore. :D

Surprisingly, despite being the HUGE accidental spoiler finder that I am, I'm actually doing okay this time around avoiding spoilers. I attribute this to me being preoccupied with another fandom at the moment.... it seems I nly run into spoilers left and right when the anticipation is focused utterly and completely at one thing, which is what happened last series. And THANK GOD, S6 is gonna be even more amazing now that I DON'T HAVE A SLIGHTLY MORE THAN VAGUE IDEA OF WHAT'S GOING ON.

I saw the New York pics and Team TARDIS this year looks AMAZING *sparkly eyes* I was actually in the mainland states for when they were there, but I WAS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COUNTRY D:

Yes, I really don't know what's going to happen, and I love that!

Of course, I did pretty well last year, too. Just think though, this year WE GET TO SEE THE EPISODE ON THE SAME DAY AS THE UK!!!!!! :D :D :D

All this New York stuff -- a signing, and a screening with Team TARDIS and Moffat in a panel, and then *another* BBCA screening with prizes in Brooklyn (which costs the lofty price of $5) . . . and I'm all the away over here! Why couldn't they have done things like this when I lived in NYC? Why can't they be doing a multi-city tour instead of sticking to NYC? Come on, BBC America, the rest of the country needs love too!

Jumping in on this, as a Brit I -love- this so much. Because now I can talk to you about it without having to wait for download links to go up or for it to finally air for you guys.

So we get to not know and find out together and all I have to do is wait a few hours. Which allows for many, many re-watches...!

Yay!!!! We are going to have a big worldwide party, aren't we? Canada also gets it that same day! Australia's slightly behind, though. And I have no idea about New Zealand. But we are seriously close to (English-speaking) worldwide Doctor Who synchronicity!

'WE GET TO SEE THE EPISODE ON THE SAME DAY AS THE UK!!!!!!'

Cool!

(Me, I have to wait till it hits Netflix or at least my local library on DVD... thus I can't get too fussed about spoilers because people will always stop spoiler-cutting LONG before I'm able to see a particular ep. *shrugs*)

Oh rats, that sucks. I'm fortunate that I get BBC America (although I do have to pay extra for it). You don't know anyone who gets the channel who has a television set handy next Saturday night?

At least you don't care about spoilers. Although I will try to remember about spoiler cuts until the DVD (or BBC's international iPlayer, which I hope they hurry up on) comes out.

I'm laughing because I did almost the exact same thing! I'm pretty much avoiding all of BBC, Digital Spy, and LJ right now and almost skipped an article about their play. Then it hit me I KNOW how this one ends.

I figured your post was safe because you are a spoilerphobic (yes, that's a word)

I'm still hanging around LJ, although I skip over a lot of posts after reading the titles. And now that you mention it, I guess this post's title does imply that it might contain spoilers, doesn't it? That hadn't occurred to me. Anyway, yes, you can trust me. :D I don't know any spoilers, and I'm hoping to keep it that way! But if by chance I happen to find some out and want to complain, I will put them under a very clearly labeled spoiler cut.

I think it takes a spoilerphobe -- spoilerphobic? -- to really understand about avoiding spoilers. The people who inadvertently spill spoilers often do it because they don't consider it a big deal.

Heh! Oh, dear. I can sympathise. (And just yesterday, when I was bored, I ended up browsing flists of friends, and accidentally hit on the BBC's latest DW press release, so now I know about who the baddies are, which I didn't till then. I like not knowing).

But, LOL, um, well, they could have some radical surprise planned for this performance, I suppose. Maybe you can't be too careful after all? (And, you know, my middle sis ended up in tears as a teenager, cos none of us thought to warn her that Romeo and Juliet died. Quite reasonably, she wanted to know how she was supposed to automatically know that, poor thing.)

Why does the BBC do things like that? I still remember the day I went to their website for some commentary or other, and saw a huge picture of Davros before I knew he was coming back. But I don't know who the baddies are yet this time, yay! *crossing fingers for the next 10 days*

Your poor sister. Yes, there's always a moment when you first find out, isn't there? Of course, you do eventually catch on to the Shakespeare pattern: tragedy = death, comedy = marriage.

Yep, lots of issues with that one.

Gilbert and Sullivan characters get married a lot too, but they seem to have a better handle on it:

Strephon: "Today we are to be made happy forever."
Phyllis: "Well, we're to be married."

I suppose it's the balance of things they think will get people to watch vs keeping plot surprises. Or sometimes I gather it does come because word has got out, so all they can do is leap in to get their own thunder before the Daily mail steals it all. Who knows?

Don't worry: I won't say a word (except it is the Zarbi at last! David will be so jealous of Matt Smith... That was a joke. I promise.)

Upon reflection, it's also possible that I went to the BBC's website during that period when "Stolen Earth" had aired in the UK but not yet in the US. So, perhaps I can't blame them after all. *cough* (But, international spoilers! They should be more careful! *g*)

I think you're right, though, there are competing pressures going on, push and pull from the creative team vs. the marketing team, plus there's the need to stay abreast of the media.

The Zarbi? I don't even know who the Zarbi are. But it's not Zarbi. Ooooh, is it Tractators? Zygons? David really would be jealous of that. Oh, I know, it's the robot parrot from "Pirate Planet," isn't it? I always suspected he would come back some day.

(But, seriously? Don't tell me anything! Fingers in ears, only 8 days to go! )

LOL David Tennant is a geekier Who fan than you! :-D He kept asking Russell to bring the Zarbi back - although he was probably joking. Probably.

The Zarbi were Hartnell giant ant things, from The Web Planet and they will totally get into [livejournal.com profile] silly_sfx one day! The costumes were awkward and they bumbed into cameras in them at times. :-) (The only thing sillier would be bringing back the Macra, which was only ever an unconvincing claw. Oh, wait...) Sadly, I have never seen the Web Planet, but I had a Target novelisation of it, and it had Pictures, so I always forget I haven't yet.

Tractators? Very cool. And would they still have those controversial noses? The Return of the Evl Woodlice is fine by me...

I still think it would've been great if I'd had the money to bid on a Tractator from that DW auction they had a while back.

LOL And I think your convincing your friends you are a normal person would as you mention elsewhere might be a teensy bit harder with having to tell them to "Mind the Tractator in the hallway..." :-D

I seem to remember Gareth Roberts in his Everything I Ever Needed to Know I Learned From... articles in DWM summing up the Web Planet as something like: "I want to create a really alien world in the studio but I know I don't have the budget to do it convincingly. Do I go ahead and do it anyway?" It is one I am curious to see, too. Must put it on my list sometime...

ROFL! They are pretty big, aren't they? I couldn't just shove him in the closet when people come over. Perhaps I could make him into a hat stand or something, and call him modern art.

Do I go ahead and do it anyway?

I think DW's answer to this was always "yes." :D

Even if you could get a Tractator in the closet, just think if someone needed to be in there, or he wouldn't quite fit... ;-) Cue people running away screaming. No, no, hatstands are dangerous weapons, even if a TARDIS is as about as offensive as a chicken vol-au-vent. (Sorry. Frontios = one of my fave Five serials.)

Yes, although rarely quite as exceptionally as in The Web Planet's case, it has to be said. It is also the only place you will find Martin Jarvis playing a giant moth. (You just gotta love DW, haven't you? Beryl Reid, Space Captain!, and Serious Actors buried in strange costumes...) :-)
