I'm reccing for Calufrax this upcoming week, and out of the 30+ stories I had on my "possible" list (I wish I was kidding), I think I have finally figured out which stories I will rec. Usually by now I have not only made firm decisions on which stories to include, but I've also written at least the first drafts of the "why you should read this" blurbs, and I have a terrible time writing those! But I'm behind, possibly because I had even more trouble than usual settling on which stories to choose. Matters were not helped by finding out in my last-minute doublecheck that two of the stories I wanted to rec had already been recced on Calufrax. Argh, why do other reccers have to have good taste? ; )

Anyway, as I said, I think I'll proceed with these ones. I even think I might know the order to rec them in. Now I just have to work on those blurbs, and also not change my mind and swap in a different story or two at the last minute.

And then you hope the person before you doesn't take any of them at the last minute. ;-) I know the one time I've done it so far it was quite a lot of work to decide, winnow and then come up with mini-essays about each one. I loved it anyway, but now I know to allow a fair bit of time if I do it again. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Oh yes! And remember back when Calufrax would have two reccers going at the same time? They'd stopped doing that by the time I first became a reccer, but that must have been nerve-wracking.

Calufrax recs do take a surprisingly large amount of time to pull together, but I still enjoy the chance to inflict share my taste with everyone. Although I always worry that other people will say, "I can't believe she thinks that is good," and it's even more scary now that the recs are appearing immediately on the Teaspoon homepage. But in the end all I can do is share a selection of stories that I like, and try to explain why I like them.

The second time I recced (which was also the last time I recced), they were still doing that - and my fellow reccer stole my last choice from under my nose. I was SO pi$$ed that I've never recced again.

I would not have been pleased at that either. Now that they've changed to just one reccer per week, have you ever been tempted to go back?

No, but mainly because I read substantially less fanfic than I used to - I've barely read any S5 stuff, for example. I simply don't have as much time for fiction (fanfic or in novels) now that I'm writing my novel. I used to be able to read an average length novel in two days - these days it's rare that I get through one a week.

Possibly it's a double compliment to the fic?

I'm in the process of figuring out my own recs at the moment (I think I'm the week after you?) I had a whole stack load of Eleven era fics I was thinking of reccing, but then I went and posted them on my journal and apparently everyone decided to claim them (which, I suppose is my own fault, and good fic is good fic, I'm just happy people are reading it - still, face!palm)

So you tempted me into taking a look, and aha, it's your fault that "Mad Nursing Skillz" has been recced already?

On the other hand, none of my chosen seven are on your list, so at least you can relax about that.

Yes you did! don't worry, you're not the person I was mildly irked at - granted, given how good the fic is, I was kind of expecting all of them to be recced before I got to the table anyways.

Oh goody! I love it when you rec because I ALWAYS love every story and end up discovering new authors for my favorites list.

Can't wait for your recs! I'd love to read new stories... and see if maybe you've recced some of my own favorites! XD. Good luck.

I hope I manage to rec some that you like! Of course, if you want to see your favorites recced, the obvious way is to volunteer for Calufrax yourself. They're always looking for reccers.

I know, I've thought about doing it before, but the truth is I don't think I have enough favorites in order to do a rec. At least, not enough favorites that haven't ALREADY been done, not yet.

First one is now posted! You already knew about the fic, though. See, you and I do have the same taste some of the time, even if we disagree about one or two of RTD's episodes. ; )

Cool! I love seeing what people on my flist rec - it's sometimes surprising, and there's often a better chance of a new discovery. (Mind, yesterday's rec - must check that out - DW/Sense and Sensibility? Ooh. :-D)

Good luck!

I agree, it's fun to see what people come up with when you already know something about their taste, and it's especially exciting when there's overlap between their taste and yours.

Boy, it's very strange to see my rec go up so quickly onto the home page of Teaspoon. I might have to compulsively check for new reviews even more often than I usually do.

Heh. Yes... :-) I get really kind of proprietorial about my recs, which is quite disturbing really.

I felt that more people seemed to be reading again on my recent rec than the last couple times - hope you get some good responses, too.
