classic Who fun!

Thanks to Netflix finally making their "watch instantly" feature compatible with my Mac, I have been having all kinds of fun browsing through their classic Who catalog. You see, there are a lot of old Doctor Who episodes that I haven't seen for a long time, and while they haven't exactly been a priority on my queue for my limited mailed-out DVDs, they're perfect for "watch instantly" -- it's like playing "pick your re-run!" So I made my way through "Horror of Fang Rock," which was great, all creepy (and much more horror-ridden than "Tooth and Claw") and am currently watching "Power of Kroll."
K-9 isn't in this episode -- he got left back in the TARDIS because of the swamp. Which seemed to be just another one of those convenient "we don't know what to do with him" excuses until lo and behold I'm watching the credits for part 1 and there's John Leeson! He's one of the people! I get quite embarrassingly excited. I'm sure a lot of Doctor Who fans are yawning now and saying well yes, of course, we knew that, but I didn't, okay? Even though I've seen this episode before. Anyway, part 2 comes on and I've seen David Tennant's video diary where they were all on the special Doctor Who edition of "The Weakest Link" and so I know what John Leeson looks like now and I'm scanning the actors and there he is! Never would've recognized him if I hadn't been looking out for him, though. Not that he looks that different, more because I suck at recognizing actors.
Anyway, it's been lots of fun and not only do I not know what's going to happen next, but I only vaguely remember where the Key to Time segment is. Some great moments between the Doctor and Romana, too. My favorite bit was a wonderful joke where Romana is menaced by an unconvincing monster; she's screaming her head off only to have the Doctor come up from behind and reveal that it's a person in a monster costume! Says the Doctor: "Well, I'm sure he was more convincing from the front." LOL! Gotta love the show making fun of their own special effects! Looking forward to watching parts 3 and 4 over the weekend.
