Vincent and the Doctor

Busy weekend, but I saw "Vincent and the Doctor" this morning.
I liked it. I wouldn't say it was one of my favorites -- so far, those have been "Eleventh Hour," "Time of Angels / Flesh and Stone" and "Amy's Choice" -- but it was a good, solid story. I loved how the monster was invisible even to the Doctor, and how the Doctor accepted that right away, and also accepted Vincent's ability to see it. I thought it was a nice touch that the invisibility wasn't ever explained in the story, either.
First and Second Doctors on the printout! Squee!
But my favorite scene was when the Doctor was getting bored waiting for the monster to show up. "If there's one thing I can't stand, it's an unpunctual alien attack!"
I'm glad Rory got a mention, but that was a sad reminder that he's gone. I think the Doctor is grieving him, and taking Amy to nice places for himself just as much as for her. Interesting that Vincent seems to think that Amy is subconsciously grieving for Rory too, even if she can't consciously remember him.
I really liked the scene where the Doctor got to take Vincent to the Musee d'Orsay in 2010. I was a little worried about history changing, but apparently the Doctor knew that the visit wouldn't affect Vincent's suicide. The part about how the peek at the future wasn't a wasted effort, and increased the sum total of happiness in Vincent's life regardless, was a very uplifting moment.
No cracks, and no silence falling, and no jacket!Doctor this time around . . . at least, not that I noticed.
In other news, the second half of "Doctor Who and the Silurians" arrived today! Looking forward to some more Brig and Liz and Third Doctor.

Date: 2010-06-29 03:33 pm (UTC)Brig and Liz and Three, oh my! But it's a shame it's on two discs so I couldn't watch the whole thing together, because now I'm probably going to mix up "Silurians" with "Hungry Earth / Cold Blood" again, only in the opposite direction.

Date: 2010-06-29 05:04 pm (UTC)The speech about the "pile of good things" has become one of my favorite quotes ever. Because its very true.

Date: 2010-06-30 03:21 am (UTC)What's this about there being no "new" episodes for the next two weeks on BBCA? Are they kidding? I mean, sure, I'm caught up with the Brits but waiting that long to see those episodes on my own tv screen is gonna kill me.
SARAHHHHH
Watched Pyramids of Mars most recently. Loved it.

Date: 2010-06-30 03:30 am (UTC)I know! I'm guessing it's another idiotic "we don't want to show an episode over a holiday weekend" maneuver. Who cares about Fourth of July? Especially on the 3rd? Don't they know that WE HAVE DOCTOR WHO TO WATCH????
"Pyramids of Mars" is one of my all-time favorite episodes of Doctor Who. You should definitely check out "Brain of Morbius" too if you haven't seen it yet.

Date: 2010-06-30 04:10 am (UTC)I do prefer to watch the show on TV.
But it's another whole week to wait.
Which will be put me four weeks behind. FOUR.
But I do prefer to watch the show on TV.
Damn you, BBCA!

Ask any time -- I'm always happy to recommend! :D I'd also love to read your reactions to the Classic episodes if you ever feel like posting them.

Okay, sorry, but I LAWLED there XD That's funny stuff.
Okay, I have no idea what gave me the impression it would be two weeks without a new episode, maybe it was how they worded it at the end of the Vincent ep but I swear I SCREAMED when I heard what I thought I heard. And I'm already caught up! o_O
Lovely BBCA, we're now two weeks behind Australia who are two weeks behind the Brits.... which means Americans are practically the last to see it all. LOVELY.
Word of advice for watching the Lodger though..... sit back and enjoy the ride.
Thanks, but I hardly post any journals PERIOD.... Maybe that should change soon. Might be fun to write a reaction post myself instead of only reading them.

I always enjoy your comments, so if you were to post, then I would definitely read it! But LJ is for fun, and there's no need to post if you'd rather not.
