Oh yes, of course I always write for myself . . . I think every writer does, ultimately, even professional writers. And like you, I can't write something that doesn't interest me. But with most of my fanfic I also try to keep the reader in mind, and I often make decisions based on my imaginary audience. For example, I'll put in something to explain an Old Who reference just in case someone reads the fic who's only seen New Who, which I wouldn't bother to do if it was written just for me.
What I meant was, this fic was a case where I didn't care if it was coming across to an audience or not -- for better or for worse.
