dbskyler: (Four fanfic)

I've been having a stressful time lately, and while I got an idea for my Yuletide fic in mid-November, and even wrote the first 300 words, I have spent the last two-and-a-half weeks diligently not working on it. As in, I would come home from work and spend the evening thinking about how I really ought to open up the file and do some writing. Or open up the file and look at what I'd written so far. Or, okay, what if I just opened up the file? I didn't have to look at it as long as the file was at least open on my computer. But then I was always too tired, or too stressed, or too something, and I put it off for another day.

Last weekend I thought I would make a lot of progress. And surely I would have, if only I had opened up the file.

So these last few days I have thought seriously about defaulting. I've never defaulted for Yuletide, and it seems crazy to default when I have an assignment I think I can genuinely write, including having an idea for it and everything. The only problem is, I'm not actually writing it.

But the default deadline isn't until Tuesday, so I decided to give myself through this weekend to see how things went. And tonight I finally managed to open up the file and read what I had written a few weeks ago. And . . . I liked it! And then I wrote some more, and as of right now, the fic is 940 words long. So assuming I can open up the file again tomorrow and Sunday, I have a pretty good shot of actually being done with it soon.

In the meantime, I got my Yuletide gift a few weeks ago, which is by far the earliest I've ever gotten it. I'm trying to decide how much I want to shake. Maybe once I've posted my own fic, I'll feel more deserving of a gift.

Aw, good luck with it! Mine is progressing, and I got to a point yesterday where I feel less despairing of it, so hopefully we can both do it? /o\

We need a fic_rush, really!

I hope the rest of the writing goes well! It sounds a case of what Brian Clemens said of writing it's a case of sitting down and doing it.

*clutches the glowstick* WE CAN!

I am typing now! All of my main characters are in peril!

I suppose I'd better get them out of it somehow, right?

Did your recipient ask for all the main characters to die horribly? If not, then yes, get them out of it!

LOL, no! But the villain has just handily info-dumped their entire plan in the traditional villain manner, so now I just need to let theme escape and win...

I did some editing, and now have 7 more words than I did last night. I suppose I ought to start work on the next scene?

That's not bad for editing! I managed another 1000 words just now, which startled me, as I haven't done that many in one go on it yet - so yes, do the next scene and then reward yourself with something nice, or bed, depending on time! You can also do it!!

and just now I wrote almost 200 more. Obviously, the spirit of not-fic-rush is helping words to flow!

Hurrah! \o/

But will your characters can escape before you head off to bed? Inquiring minds want to know!

Nope, I just went to bed and left them there, but it's no. 1 on the to do list for today!!

And writing ~600 words in one evening is even better. Plus, the file is open again today! : )
