dbskyler: (Thirteenth Doctor)

Saw the new Doctor Who trailer and was getting all excited -- more of Thirteen, and she's a woman! -- and then I made the mistake of listening to someone's analysis of the trailer, and got reminded that the new showrunner is Chris Chibnall.

I think I'll just sit here in a corner and hope he doesn't actually write any of the episodes this series.

I know what you mean, although I've got a bit more hopeful about it lately, as some interviews with him suggest he wants this season to be lighter and hopeful - and the stuff of Chris Chibnall's that I prefer is usually his lighter stuff (like The Power of Three, and some of the funnier bits in Torchwood S2). He is bound to write some episodes, though, but let us at least console ourselves that there is no way he can write them all!

It is a weird thing though - I'd decided to avoid all Chris Chibnall penned things for now for the sake of my sanity, but DOCTOR WHO. And I love the clips of Thirteen we've had so far!

(I suppose this is how it feels to be a Moffat-hater!)

I have zero interest in S11 at this point -- it was already bad enough, IMHO, that Chibnall is showrunner, but Capaldi was basically ignored or trashed as the Doctor (which Whittaker's worse fans are having fun continuing), and there's all this wild "Look! It's good again!" hype. (Yeah, not going to forgive NuWho for casting an actor as good as Capaldi and screwing it up.)

However, the only thing that interests me at this point is if Chibnall decided that enough was enough with NuWho's obsession with making the Doctor a poor, pathetic little woobie haunted by the Time War, and that's why Whittaker's all "bubbly" (I hate that term) and full of the wonder of the universe. She ain't gonna do cosmic manpain. Since CC grew up with Classic Who, maybe he'll hark back to what he liked about it? Still ain't watching it until it's out on DVD...

LOL, yes, I guess so! And I never understood how anyone could just hate Moffat and everything he wrote, because for me, his episodes differed so much. But now I get it!

We won't commiserate with them, though, because obviously they are just wrong! ;-p

I'm just nervous about the 3 companions. That's a lot of companions. And every shot I saw from the trailer was like, three of them running together in a line.

It might be different with Chibnall as showrunner rather than writer for hire? I hope the scripts are the world's greatest scripts in vain hope it'll stop people in my rl complaining about the Dr being a woman when the new series starts.

I don't know if it's more or less annoying that they are casual watchers who don't really care about Dr Who anyway!

I think the fact that he's worked with Jodie before for 3 years of Broadchurch is giving me some hope. Perhaps misguidedly so...

I'm willing to wait and see, but I loved the trailer, and I'm loving the bits and pieces of interviews I've seen with Jodie who just seems SO excited about the whole thing.

I love what I've seen of Jodie, too, so at least there's that. I'm just worried we'll end up with a TV Movie situation where the Doctor is great, but the story is . . . not.

But I'll do my best to go into it with an open mind.

I can fully understand your apprehension since Chibbers' eps of Who (and Torchwood) are amongst my least faves, and as I said back when Broadchurch was new, Chibbers should stick to writing realism, because he's no damn good at writing SFF.
