This show is so frustrating. It could be so good, but it's just not. The court stuff is ridiculously stupid, and it's always set to this slow, dramatic music, and close-ups of actors' faces who are valiantly trying to look variously triumphant or concerned over stuff like "oh, let's throw the whole court case out because the victim's father visited the defendant in jail." Seriously, how is that a problem? What does that have to do with the integrity of the evidence? And they put so much emphasis on it, and it completely undermines everything else that might have been good about the episode.

It looks like we might actually be getting a verdict next week, which would be nice. At this point, I don't even care about Danny's death anymore. If we can just stick to the Sandbrook case and get away from the badly done court stuff, that would be better.

Um, don't get your hopes up about getting the verdict - the penultimate episode ends on a cliffhanger.

Sadly, I doubt it will be much of a cliffhanger for me. I don't care about the verdict. I just want them to be done with the courtroom scenes already.

Okay. Just don't expect the verdict in the penultimate ep 'cos it's not gonna happen.

(I actually yelled "Chris!!!!" at the screen when I realised he was ending the ep without the verdict given. Also, I totally called it.

Yeah, I'm kinda with you at this point. It's really starting to drag. Maybe part of the problem is that they never really anticipated doing a second series? I mean, it's like you can get really inspired and sit down to write a great poem or story... but then if you purposefully try to do the exact same thing again, some of the oomph has gone out of it?

Sadly, I don't think that's it. The stuff that's most similar to the first series -- solving the Sandbrook case -- is, in my opinion, the strongest part of the second series.

I don't mean the specific content, I mean the whole thing of trying to catch lightning in a bottle a second time, and having suddenly to come up with something.
