I just found out today that Karen Gillan is in Guardians of the Galaxy. I am SO out of the pop culture loop! I'm sure everyone else has known about this for months. Anyway, I'm glad I found out now, because I've been meaning to go see that movie, and if I'd just been sitting innocently in the movie theater and been unexpectedly confronted with Karen Gillan, I would have probably made all sorts of inappropriate noises.

In other news, I have re-read one of my old WIPS, and I've actually gotten myself excited about the story again. This is big news. You see, for ages I had tried forcing myself to work on it, and I never seemed to get anywhere. So I gave up and put it aside. But now, as I was re-reading the fic, instead of experiencing "oh god, this thing again," I wanted to keep reading. And when I got to where I had left off, I wanted to read more! Except of course there is no more. So I am now attempting to channel those feelings of wanting to read more into wanting to write more. And, I think I might be succeeding. I even have new ideas for how to end it, which is good because I wasn't ever that enthusiastic about my original idea for the ending (which might just have had something to do with why I never did manage to finish it). Anyway, I'm feeling the motivation again, although before I really start writing I'm going to have to do some episode re-watching -- specifically "Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane" and "Turn Left."

In other news, my kitchen has been overrun with fruit flies. It is so bad, I can't even cook in there right now -- flies land in whatever I have cooking on the stove. Yuck. I have cleaned everything I can, and taken out all the food-related trash, and poured clorox down the drain as I suspect they are breeding in the drain. And I have a fruit fly trap, which has successfully caught quite a few of them, although there are still tons more. Not sure what else I can do except wait for the current batch to die out and keep everything food-related out of their reach so they have nothing to eat or breed on. Which is kind of hard to do in a kitchen. I think I might be eating out for the next few days.

Eeeewwww! I hate it when that happens. Fruit flies are so upsetting. Not the flies themselves, so much as the knowledge that their babies are around somewhere... *hugs*

Hurrah! on the old WIP becoming exciting again. That is a true cause for celebration. I wish you happy writing with it.

Karen Gillian isn't obvious in the movie (very few of the actors are, actually). I knew she was in it, and it still took me half the film to figure out who she was. She's not using her accent. I only figured it out in the end because I remembered that she'd had to shave her head for the role.

Definitely eeeewwww! Although it's much better already this evening -- I managed to make a quesadilla on the stovetop without flies interfering. They are still present, but now concentrated around the fly trap, hooray. I am still going to have to be extra-diligent about keeping the area clean, with no dirty dishes or food-related garbage, until they are finally gone.

That's interesting about Karen. I probably wouldn't have recognized her then (I'm terrible at recognizing actors even when they don't have shaved heads). But perhaps this information means I'll now be able to spot her.

Thanks for the good wishes on the WIP!

OMG! REALLY? You're going back to the SJS Turn Left story?! *flails mightily*

Eewwwwww on fruit flies!

And yeah, I knew KG is in GotG but almost all the actors are unrecognisable - I believe she's blue and bald!

LOL, yes, that would be the one. : ) Are you up for being beta reader once I've produced more words?

Urgh, poor you! I hope you've got them. :-/ (I don't suppose it helps, but I we had an infestation in one of the kitchens at work once, and I think that was fruit flies, and when the pest control guy came in, he said that they tend to lay their eggs in dry things like flour and sugar, and it was a whole load of flour from some of the activities that had been probably causing the problem. But it was a while ago, I'm not very sure.)

And, ooh, good luck with the writing! \o/

Thankfully my infestation doesn't seem to be around any of my actual food; it's all located around the sink. Which is why I'm pretty sure they've been breeding in the garbage disposal. I've been putting ice cubes down it to clear it of food debris, and I've basically stopped using my kitchen garbage can (which I keep conveniently -- for the flies -- under the sink).

I'm excited about being excited about writing again!
