I'm working on my fic for [profile] dw_50ficathon, and I needed some technobabble. I sat there staring at a blank screen, trying vainly to think up something good, when it suddenly occurred to me to wonder if there might be some technobabble examples on the web that I could steal from get inspiration from.

A quick google search later, and what did I find? The Star Trek Random Technobabble Generator.

The internet is AWESOME.

*whoops with laughter*

Another useful technique: wander around in the technical articles on Wikipedia (I go for the mathematics or astrophysics sections) and collect any term you don't understand. Winnow, shake well, bake at room temperature: technobabble!

ETA: re this icon -- in that episode, MacGyver actually had a line about heterodyning frequencies. He delivered it with great conviction, although the actor never did understand what the hell it meant.

What a great technique! Thanks; I'm definitely going to try that!

It's also rather humbling as an exercise, especially when you're used to being The Smartest Person In The Room [TM] . . .
