Honestly, I am not that excited about learning who will be playing the Twelfth Doctor. This is because most likely, I will have never heard of the actor. All of those casting rumors? I have read them, and I have no idea who any of these people are. They are all just a list of names. Okay, I do remember Peter Capaldi from Fires of Pompeii, but that's it, and I have no particular feelings about him other than "Sure, he seems like a good actor."

But everyone is talking about this special, so what the hell, I have set up my VCR to record it (since I can't watch it live). I fully expect to come home, watch a bunch of people ramble on about the role of the Doctor, then see this person I don't know anything about announced as the next Doctor and go "Okay, then."

It's possible that I will get spoiled for the name of the new actor before I get to watch the special, except that it's very unlikely that it will make the slightest bit of difference, as I will have no idea who the person is anyway.

(But perhaps I'm wrong? Now I am unreasonably hoping to be incredibly surprised by the announcement that the new Doctor is Hugh Laurie.)

Thought Hugh Laurie had refused to come home to work any more?

I'm not excited either. If I thought it was going to be someone I knew, like Ben Daniels (who's been the bookies' favourite), I'd be excited, but like you, I'm quite sure it'll be someone obscure/barely known, so meh.

I will watch the special - if I remember, but yeah - whatever.

Hugh Laurie won't work the UK anymore? I didn't know that.

The announcement wasn't worth watching, to be honest. When I heard Peter Davison and Colin Baker were making appearances, I thought there might be some interesting content, which is what tipped me over into deciding to record it, but it was all fluff.

That's what I'd heard. I've no idea if it's true as I've no real interest in the man...

I don't know - I thought it was nice to see people like Janet Fielding and Katy Manning and Anneke Willis. Could have done without the moronic supposed super fan who called Chris Eccleston 'Peter', though! (I shouted at him to go home and cheered when he got up to leave.) Also could have done without Moff's moronic comment about it being time the Queen was played by a man.

Oh, good. So I'm not the only one less than excited? I agree, I'm not likely to know the actor they cast (and I'm okay with that--actually prefer that to someone known). But because I don't know who he is, I have no idea what he'll bring to the role. So, I'm feeling very 'meh' about it all.

Even if you know the actor, how do you know what they'll bring to the role? I did know Peter Davison from "All Creatures Great and Small" before he became the Doctor, and that didn't give me any hints at all as to how he ended up playing the role. Even if they had gone with Hugh Laurie, I would still be waiting to see if I like his Doctor or not. So yeah, I think the hoopla is a little silly, but I guess it's better than nobody giving a damn about the show.

I know - I'm looking forward to knowing (being the UK I have at least a marginally better chance of knowing the actor, obviously) - but this isn't the exciting bit! That's when we see them in action.

Which in this case will be tragic, because of loss of Matt Smith's face... :-(

(But, hey, that's DW!)

Still, it's kind of amusing that these days they feel it warrants a whole special TV show announcement instead of a slot on the news! So I'll be watching it because it's hard not to really...

Yes, exactly!

I am very sad to see Matt Smith go. Which is actually a good thing, because how much sadder would it be if I couldn't wait until he's gone? But yes, it is still sad and tragic. Eleven is definitely one of my all-time favorite Doctors.

Oh, you haven't watched Children of Earth, have you? He was quite excellent there.

But yeah, people will ramble either way and complain either way. This is the way of Doctor Who fans! :D (Also, lol @ Hugh Laurie. I doubt he'll ever return to full time television, he sounded quite frustrated with House at some point!)

Actually, I did see Capaldi in Children of Earth, and I remember being impressed with his acting. He may have been the only thing I liked about the show, actually.

It is indeed!
