Oooh, I really liked that. Okay, so I've always had a soft spot for the relationship between the Doctor and the TARDIS, and I feel like not only did he wish really hard, but I did too -- and got what I wanted! I loved how she kept calling him "Thief" and said she stole him and just wanted to go out and see the universe. Yay, TARDIS!

-- The whole "pull to open" conversation was awesome.
-- "The pretty one" -- LOL!
-- For some reason, when the TARDIS started talking about sending Rory and Amy to an old "archived" console room, I was expecting something along the lines of Four's secondary control room. Then when they showed up in Ten's console room, I was simultaneously YAY!! (it was so wonderful to see it again) and "wow, I'm such an idiot, of course that's the set they still have hanging around."

This was apparently an arc-free episode, except for one curious thing: Rory again made a point of saying that he's a nurse. Haven't we gotten that in, like, every episode so far? What could be the reason behind repeating that so often? Is he going to unexpectedly declare himself a different profession someday, and that's how we'll know the universe is in big trouble? ("Damn it Amy, I'm a ______, not a nurse!")

I confess to finding it very amusing that Idris kept calling him "Thief"...

Especially since she does call him Doctor at one point, so it's not like she doesn't know what else to call him . . . :D

According to sources, Neil Gaiman ideally wanted them to recreate one of the classic console rooms for that scene, but they ran into budget troubles (which is why his plans to put in the Room of Mirrors and the Zero Room, as well as the swimming pool also fell through..... apparently Gaiman had plans to have Rory and Amy learn to levitate!) so they went for the next best thing; Nine/Ten's coral TARDIS.

ADORED the episode though. The "old married couple" banter was fantastic, and the "Pull To Open" conversation was probably one of the funniest thing's ever. Idris!TARDIS was acted brilliantly, I only wish that we could've had her around for a little longer....

As for Rory, I think.... Rory might be having an identity crisis. They're not making a huge deal about it in the show so far but when you think about how in the second ep they made it a point to show that Rory still has 2000 years of memories as a plastic centurion.... it makes sense that he might be trying to somehow assert his identity, like maybe he's having issues reconciling the different sets of memories, even if he says that sometimes he remembers and sometimes he doesn't.

Speaking of Rory I'm worried about him. He keeps dying or near-dying. I don't think it's a "gag" either, as some people have been waving it off as. The way it's been portrayed has never been anything but serious.

Good point about Rory having an identity crisis. That would be much better character development that was given to Jack when he spent those same 2000 years in less-than-ideal circumstances. (being purposely vague on specifics of a 3 year old episode because this is a spoiler- free journal).

I do, however, agree that the Rory repeatedly dying is not a random thing. I think it may also be tied to Amy being pregnant/not-pregnant.

Aw, thanks! But don't worry, I've seen that episode. And yeah, Jack pretty much bounced back from that, didn't he?

I think it may also be tied to Amy being pregnant/not-pregnant.

You must be the person I got this idea from, because I read my journal earlier today, but am only now getting around to replying. And now I notice that I just said that exact same thing about the dying/pregnancy being linked in my reply to [personal profile] tempestas_inu, but you said it first, so it must've been percolating in my brain and I must've subconsciously decided you were right.

Wow, really interesting! So we almost had an "Invasion of Time" - type tour through the TARDIS? That would've been amazing, especially if we got to visit old favorites like the Zero Room. Oh well, maybe someday! At least we got corridors, which is the first time we've been out of the console room in New Who, isn't it? About time! (And I like to think that some of those corridors still have unraveled scarf along them, from "Castrovalva.")

I would've fainted with joy at seeing an old console room from, say, Four or Five's era. But Ten's console room was great, too.

You're right, the "dying" thing is getting a little worrying. I almost wonder if Amy's pregnancy and Rory's dying are linked -- and maybe even related to "Amy's Choice"?

Yes! I SO expected to see Four's secondary control room. A friend pointed out that they had to go with what they could recreate properly, and apparently the bits from Ten's room were still lying around.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who was expecting that secondary control room! Complete with Mandragora Helix on the monitor . . . ; )
