I'm in the mood for another randomly generated fic rec, and this time I'm doing something a little different -- instead of a single fic, I've decided to rec two drabbles. They're by different authors but they go together well, hitting the same tone and using the same two characters.

A randomly generated fic rec is simply my way of spreading the fic-love around. While the Calufrax recommendations are great, there are a lot of stories that go unnoticed. This is my attempt to rectify that a little. To mix things up, and to keep myself from getting into a recommendation rut, I go to the Doctor Who Random Pairing Generator, here, then choose a fanfic story to recommend that is related to one or both of the characters that come up. If I can't think of a good story to recommend based on the first pairing of characters, I click again to get a new pairing. My only rule is I will not recommend a story that has already been recommended on Calufrax, since that defeats the purpose of spreading recommendations around.

First, header information that applies to both drabbles:

Randomly generated character: Grace Holloway
Characters: Grace Holloway, the Eighth Doctor
Rating: All ages
Spoilers: The TV Movie
Length: 100 words

And now, the individual links and story summaries:

Fic #1: So THAT'S Where He Got Them!
Author: RTF
Author's summary:Because you've been wondering since 1996 where they came from.

Fic #2: The Gift
Author: Kittenmommy
Author's summary:Grace gives the Doctor a gift that he doesn't really want.

Why the rec: I'm not a huge fan of drabbles, but they have grown on me over time, and these are both examples of how good drabbles can be when they're done correctly. The first is a missing scene that fills in a small little hole from the TV Movie; the second could be a missing scene that plays off of the TV Movie's events. Both are clever and smile-inducing.

Thanks for the recs. The first one was especially amusing. (Though Jelly Babies are *never* sour! o_O)

Ooh, an Eight icon! Nice . . .

(Though Jelly Babies are *never* sour! o_O)

Yeah, I was wondering about that. The sugary/starchy coating looks a little similar to the coating on some sour candies we have over here, so Grace must've just gotten confused. Forgive her -- it's hard to get Jelly Babies in San Francisco!

Glad you enjoyed the drabbles!

Did you see the post on [livejournal.com profile] doctorwho yesterday, asking if Jelly Babies still exist, and where you can get them? This from an American...

Not only did I see that post, I left a comment! It's possible to get Jelly Babies here but you have to track them down.

Heh, fair enough - I just saw the post linked via W_D...

Anything really worth having probably ought to be elusive!

Actually, I don't like them that much . . . they're okay, but they're far from my favorite. I feel like such a bad Four fan!

LOL! And here I thought everyone in England loved them and the only reason I didn't was because I hadn't grown up with them! Yes, chocolate is far better, I agree.
