You might be interested in this article: Leave David Tennant alone – he makes a pretty good American, which goes into a little more depth than usual about hits and misses of the phonetics. I was amused at "He's no Hugh Laurie, I admit", especially since the context in which alumfelga linked me to this in the first place had already brought up Hugh Laurie, and "Tennant is not quite our revenge for Dick Van Dyke", whose Cockney I gather is legendarily bad (though of course I'm American so it doesn't sound quite as terrible to me as it might otherwise). And I suppose it's definitely true I've heard American accents as bad as that - Peri Brown's comes to mind - and David's is at least not quite in that league of badness.
