because I'm still bemused by Casanova . . .

I mean, I know it's Casanova, not the Doctor, but David is using the same accent, and a lot of the same mannerisms, and damn it, I give up, here, have a video of the Doctor confessing to a priest about all the sex he's been having lately.

(Be advised that the video has content I would call teen-rated)

LOL! I'd forgotten how much I like that scene! It's incredibly disconcerting how much like the Doctor his mannerisms are there. If I didn't know better I'd say it was just a bad actor who only knows how to play one character - but there is way too much evidence to the contrary.

Yes, it's a funny scene, but very disconcerting!!! And I agree, we have tons of evidence that David is very skilled at acting and can definitely come across as entirely different -- it's not him. Since Casanova came first, I can only assume that RTD encouraged him to play the Doctor similarly (and wrote dialogue in the same way).

Told you Rusty was lazy - he did write both characters after all - there's no excuse, and laziness is the most obvious explanation, because we all know very well that *David* is a brilliant actor who can pull off playing two different characters in the same damn story!

Yeah, I think RTD is a huge common denominator . . .

Common being the operative word here!

I do love Casanova so! Makes me laugh to see the Doctor sleeping his way around Europe...

I think the similarities came about because we have the same writer, the same actor, and the same wonderful balance between light-heartedness and heaviness. There are moments in Casanova where he is -totally- different to the Doctor, and we had moments in DW where he was different to Casanova, so I think that if you were to do some Venn diagram then there would be an overlap in characteristics.

Probably around the "decent bloke", sense of humour, quirky mannerisms, does what he wants and deals with the consequences stuff...

Been staring at this for the past few days debating over whether or not I should watch. I'm curious, but after reading some of the comments you got I'm worrying that this'll change the way I look at Ten just simply because of how similar David acted the two characters XD.

Honestly, I doubt it'll change the way you look at Ten. I definitely found it surreal to watch Casanova -- and a very different experience than it would have been if I had never watched David in Doctor Who -- but it's not as if I mixed up the characters at all. It was just, well, weird.
