more of the usual ramblings

Things that Do Not Help when one is trying to get back to working on an old WIP: getting bit by a plotbunny for a new story.

No progress on the WIP yet, but at least I'm writing again, does that count? And for a change, I like the way the story is coming out (so far, anyway).

In addition to cheating on my WIP, I've been cheating on Doctor Who. I've got the DVD for "Planet of the Daleks" all ready to go, and instead I've been watching Avatar: The Last Airbender and Being Human. I'm new to both shows, and I've just been watching what's been on my television, which means I've caught scattered episodes of S1 of Avatar and the first four episodes of S2 of Being Human. Both shows have hooked me enough that I feel like trying to go back and watch from the beginning in order. But before I do that, I really ought to watch "Planet of the Daleks," seeing as it's Three and Jo and Daleks, and I've never, ever seen it.

Oh, and I really ought to spend some time writing this week, too . . . boy, being a fan is time-consuming, isn't it?

Oh my god YOU'RE WATCHING AVATAR!!!??? I was OBSESSED with that show when it was airing! absolute best cartoon dished out in recent years, in fact may be one of the best cartoons ever.... certainly doesn't try to tone down heavy issues even if it was shown on a channel for kids. Great plot, great characters.... seriously a gem among the crappy shows for kids these days.

Oh, and glad you're writing again! Good luck on your new plotbunny AND Turn Left story!

drawing your pic now :D

Well, [personal profile] lizbee had been raving about Avatar, and then Nickelodeon had to go and keep showing episodes of it, so what was I to do? I wouldn't say I'm obsessed, but it's definitely caught my interest. I need to see it in order, though, because my scattered catching-an-episode-here-and-there approach has left me feeling that I'm missing out on important plot elements, which I probably am. It's not a typical "kid show," that's for sure.

Ooohh! *bounce* *bounce* *bounce* *bounce* *bounce*

Eheheh... I got a bit too excited there. Yeah, you definitely need to see it in order. Thankfully Season 1 had the largest number of one-shot story episodes (mostly for the sake of getting the audience used to the characters), so they weren't completely necessary to see in order, but of course that means that it was a bit less likely to catch a plot-related episode during a rerun.

Me? After deciding I liked the show I just went off and bought the first season box set XD. At some point I finally caught up to the show as it was airing and enjoyed the rest in real time.

So far so good on your pic.... once again Ten is giving being a headache to draw, but at least it's good practice XD.

I just discovered that all three seasons of Avatar are available via "watch instantly" on Netflix, so I see a marathon session or three on the horizon. I'll have to post again and let you know what I thought of it when I'm done!

Aw, sorry! See, this is one of the reasons I didn't want to tell you what to draw -- I'd feel horrible if I'd asked for something that was giving you headaches! But since you were the one who chose it, all I'll say is it's fine with me if you want to give up and switch to something else instead. I'm also very fond of Eleven in a fez. :D

But truthfully, I'm extremely excited at the idea of having a picture inspired by my fanfic, and unfortunately, I haven't written that.

Maybe I should write that. ; )

p.s. on your art -- I would really, really love to see you continue your "Doctor in another Doctor's outfit" series, and do it for all 11 Doctors. Nine in Six' outfit! Two in Eleven's! Four in Seven's! Three in Five's! If you were ever inspired to do that, I think the entire Doctor Who community would love it.

Never seen either BH or Avatar: TLA. Stories about vampires do not interest me. And yes, I know it also features a werewolf and a ghost, but, guess what, I ain't all that fond of werewolves either - plus I don't think Russell Tovey's all that, despite half my FList apparently being crazy for him. Boy do I suck at being a sheep and following the herd!

However, I am glad that you're writing even if it's not Turn Left (I will try not to grumble that it's not TL!)

TL deadline is still active, don't worry! This is just one of those stories that seems to be forcing itself on me, but at least it's roped the muse into coming back again. I seem to have an incredibly lazy muse who likes to go off on long vacations.

I used to enjoy vampire stories, but I've lost interest in them over the last few years (haven't read a word of Twilight, for example, and have no interest in the movies). Werewolves have never interested me, but I do like stories about ghosts. Anyway, I thought the premise sounded interesting, and when I saw that BBCA had started showing S2, I wanted to give it a try. I've found it to be a very good show, with fascinating characters.

Perhaps your muse needs a spanking? :P

RE: Being Human. Fair enough. (Twilight? Pah! Vampires DO NOT sparkle FFS!)

Hee. It is, it is. In the other hand, you are having fun hooray!

Yep, fandom is fun! Much more fun than boring work stuff. Why can't I get paid for fandom?

No, writing is good! It's a shame you couldn't rescue the WIP just yet, but, hey plotbunny! :-D

[identity profile] dbskyler.livejournal.com 2010-08-16 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Having a rabid plotbunny is exciting! I don't often get stories forcing themselves on me like this. It might even fit into [profile] 50ficlets, although I'm not sure yet. It probably will be ficlet length, though, unless it starts exploding.

I've been thinking about exploring Being Human. It intrigues me - less for the super natural aspect and more because of the quirky character stuff. Vampires on their on don't really interest me (and Twilight is just bad writing.)

Bunnies! the are so fickle, running away when you want them, and then breeding like mad when you don't have the inclination/ time to feed them all.

[identity profile] dbskyler.livejournal.com 2010-08-17 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
The BH characters are genuinely interesting over and above the supernatural stuff, and their relationships are equally fascinating. I've only seen four episodes, but I really love their interactions with each other as flatmates - probably my favorite part of the show so far.

And too true about the bunnies! Just when I don't want to take on a new story, one comes along and breeds.
