I've been working on my second ficlet for 50ficlets and it's going fairly well, actually -- in fact, I think it might be ready to post tomorrow. But in the course of creating this (currently) 512-word ficlet, I have written an additional 1,134 words. That's what's in my scratch file right now.

I think I may have just figured out why I'm a slow writer . . .

Oh, I wouldn't mind at all if the extra words were there because I was keeping the word count down, but that's not it. The scratch file contains all the pieces of writing that I took out because I didn't like them -- snippets and phrases and entire paragraphs of sucky writing, or writing that sometimes is fine but for one reason or another I decided didn't "go" with the direction of the fic.

But yes, some of it might be usable for the longer story . . . we'll see!

Aw, that's nice of you to say. I wish I could prevent myself from producing the suck in the first place, but at least I recognize it when I see it . . . or some of it, anyway. ; )
