more ramblings

-- Was in the mood for some Third Doctor, so I'm watching "The Green Death" for the first time (yes, I actually know I've never seen this one before). I'm currently halfway through and I'm really enjoying it! There's some great relationship stuff going on between the Doctor and Jo, and I have a feeling it's going to be very sad at the end when she leaves for the Amazon with Cliff Jones. I'm pleased to see that the Jo / Cliff romance is being handled very well and very realistically -- kind of makes me wish they'd been able to give us a similarly credible build-up when they did this kind of thing again with Leela and Andred in "Invasion of Time." Best line so far was the Brigadier talking the Doctor into getting involved: "The chap's green, and he's dead. Just your cup of tea." Looking forward to watching the second half soon!

-- I've been so wrapped up in the Yuletide story that I had to write, I didn't think at all about the fact that someone is out there writing a story for me! But it's starting to dawn on me now, and I'm getting very excited to read it. A new Battlestar Galactica story! Or a new Space:1999 story! Or a new Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) story! Any of those would be fantastic, and one is guaranteed. : )

-- I've posted my own Yuletide story, and I read it through one more time before posting it, and . . . hmm. Well, I do still like it, but I'm feeling less confident about it than when I finished it a few weeks ago. Hopefully that's just the normal pre-posting nervousness. Of course, there's still a wait before it becomes available to be read and people can comment on it . . . another week until I find out if I've succeeded, or crashed and burned!

-- There's something else that's happening in a week, what was it again . . . oh yeah, part one of "End of Time"! I am getting really, really, really excited to see that, and also very nervous. Please, oh please, let it be good! I've got "Planet of the Spiders," "Logopolis" and "Caves of Androzani" on standby, just in case I need a remedy for a bad regeneration scene . . . and "Christmas Invasion" in case I need to pretend that the Doctor just regenerates back into Ten again.

Oh Green Death is very sad at the end... After I watched it the first time I really wished Liz and Three had had a goodbye scene as well... :(

Now THERE is an idea! I may take my TCI disc home with me to watch too! :D

I like poignant goodbye scenes myself, so I'm looking forward to seeing how they handled Jo's goodbye. Yes, Liz deserved one, and it's a shame that Harry didn't get much of one either. I almost wish they'd not brought him back after "Terror of the Zygons" because in "Android Invasion" he's completely ignored.

Well, it helped me after "Logopolis" . . . I know I'll be fine with Matt Smith, just like I was fine with Peter Davison, but sometimes it's nice to ease yourself into the transition. : )

True about Harry! I liked the end of Green Death - I wish that RTD had taken lessons from it.

It's not the regeneration INTO Matt Smith that worries me - it's just the regeneration in general and - well - the whole of the ending.

Yes, exactly! You just know it's going to be sad . . .

Yes it is - but even that doesn't bother me. What worries me is that it's going to be messy and unsatisfying...

Oh, I share that fear! I really liked "Waters of Mars," though, so I'm crossing my fingers.

I love the Green Death - hope you enjoy the rest!

Good luck with your Yuletide fic - i'm sure it'll be great. It'll be interesting to see what fic comes up, I have to say, and I'll be looking at the NYR prompts, I hope.

:-D

I love the Green Death

It's been great so far! Poor Brigadier, always having to deal with the bureaucrats and politicians! I just love watching him, though. And the scenes with the Doctor and Jo have been wonderful.

Good luck with your Yuletide fic - i'm sure it'll be great.

I hope so! I also hope my recipient will like it. But its so hard to know!

It'll be interesting to see what fic comes up

Yeah, I admit I've been stalking the fandoms page a little to see what's getting posted! I've already seen a fandom or two that I'm planning to read.

I'll be looking at the NYR prompts

I hope someting inspires you!

Green Death! Maggots and Benton (here kitty kitty!) and disguises and supercomputers and Three trying his darndest to steer that young cock-a-whoop away from his Jo to no avail! - such a sad ending, but still good fun.

(I remember Katie Manning mentioning she still had a maggot in one of her bureau drawers, lol... great souvenir, or a very odd 'goodbye' present)

[identity profile] dbskyler.livejournal.com 2009-12-20 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
LOL! Elisabeth Sladen got to take home a stuffed owl when she left, and Katy Manning got stuck with a maggot??? Unless of course she wanted it . . . : )
